PR ideas

Hey guys. I have a favor to ask of any of you *AOII's or not* I'm the PR chair for Epsilon Gamma and I need some ideas on how to get girls going for PR. We do things outside of the chapter, we wear letters, and I'm starting the PR notebook so they can write down what they've done for AOII or to promote AOII in the last week and the person with the highest amount of PR points at the end of the semester gets a prize. But, we are having problems with our ladies going out and COR'ing new ladies to join, and I think that PR could help out the recruitment chair with this.

I was wondering if any of y'all could help me and give me some new PR ideas... That would be awesome!

Thumbs up Combine

Combine a COR, PR, and philanthrophy activity....What about AOPie-in-the-face with campus administrators to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation? Directors of parking and housing seem to be good "targets."

At Nu Beta we do a Women of Excellence Banquet every Spring. What we do is put ads in the paper telling the public about the banquet and where to pick up forms to nominate a woman of excellence in the community, on campus, in the Greek Community, and a female athletic. Anyway, this gets our name out because we are running ads, putting flyers out, and after the banquet the next day we put the winners in the paper. We also put our 4.0s and other members' names in the paper who have done something awesome in the community or on campus.
-----------------------------------------------
Make your chapter members wear AOII shirts and tell them to look cute! I know at Nu Beta we tell our members that they as members are a constat recruitment tool and PR tool for AOII. Therefore, they should always look their best and if they wear their letters then look cute!
-----------------------------------------------
Nu Beta did a "Men of Ole Miss" calendar a few years ago when I was a collegiate. We asked sororities and orgs on campus for nominees of men for the calendar. It went very well and then we had the calendars made and sold them for $10 bucks in the Student Union for a few weeks. It was a great way to get AOIIs name out there and plus, what woman wouldn't want a calendar full of good looking college aged men? (PS They were all clothed in suits and nice clothes from stores on our Square in Oxford, MS)
-----------------------------------------------
Another way to get your name out to the community is wear your AOII letters and volunteer at Retirement Communities, Hospitals, Leap Frog, Churches, etc...
-----------------------------------------------
Also, we love banners at Ole Miss. Whenever something big is going on we will have a banner hanging in front of the house. For example the girls put up banners that say, "Good Luck Rebels" for football games etc, and it always says, Love AOII!

we just did the cutest PR Thing ever. We made posters on campus last week. Monday, tues, Wed the posters said "Get Kissed" that was it. I know it is lame but everyone was wondering who wrote that. The actives were handing out little hersheys kisses and then on Thursday the poster said "Have you been kissed by an AOII".

When the actives are handing out kisses on campus they can also be handing out flyers to PNM's with dates and info on your COR's.

This old alum loves the Hershey Kisses passouts, and completely love the "have you been Kissed by an AOII" tagline. Love it, love it, love it!

PS--Hi Stacekat! I never knew you were an AOII, so welcome!

Thanks y'all! I really appreciate the feedback! I'll have to print them out tomorrow and add them to my notebook for 'soon in the' future reference!

Here's some more ideas...

RAK - Random Acts of Kindness
Pass out bags of goodies on campus to women and include the COR schedule on/in them. As the weather gets warmer try bringing a cooler to campus and hand out frozen pops.

Group Open Houses
Has a women's organization (non-greek) just done something great on campus? The volleyball team or a freshman's scholarship group? Have an Open House honoring them for their accomplishment. This gets them to your house you can have COR dates and other membership information available to them. But focus more on the congratulatory aspect. If the women don't join they'll be talking up how AOII honored them and what great ladies you.

You can also do this for Professors - ask each sister to invite their favorite professor over - this is great Greek - Faculty community relations.

Do you have anyone in your chapter that's on the student newspaper or yearbook? Invite the non-Greek women to your house. How about other organizations on campus?

Alpha Party (or Pi Party)
Do you have other groups on campus that share the Alpha or the Pi in their name? Have a social with them in the spring.

Sporting Events
Go as a chapter to the women's sporting events on campus. Women's sporting events do not get the attendance that their male counterparts have. Make signs (if your school allows) and support your female athletes.

Founder's Day Cards
Send out cards to the Greek chapters on their founding days.

Website
Is your chapter website information up to date? Make sure you've got all current information on it!

Don't forget that you have some valuable resources at your serve - CC's, PR Adviser, CA & CNS! Also LI is an excellent place to get new ideas. If you are able to attend at all you should! Leadership Institute If you're not able, be sure to get the information from the Packet your CP receives at LI.

HTH!

Roses,
Heidi

Does your chapter have a website? Iota Chi didn't (I'm their PR Chair this year) so my big task was to develop one for the chapter.

As well someone mentioned combining philanthropy w/ PR, we helped out at an Easter Seals marathon and a local TV station was there (we were all in letters of course!) and its great to show the surrounding city that greeks don't necessarily fit the "party" negative stereotype and that we do charitable stuff as well!

Another thing our chapter does is when we initiate our new girls, the day after in the campus newspaper we put in an "AOII Roses" to our new girls and that always makes them feel really special (I still have mine from 2 years ago!) plus it shows your school that you have a real sisterhood and bond by supporting your new girls.

Hope those ideas help!

I am from the Lambda Eta chapter. We recently did a fun PR project. We Had a BUy a Pi party. it was basially a date auction. the money goes to our local philantropy. Anway all the girls that were being sold had to wear Heart pins.
I belive it said " Wanna BUy a PI ??? Meet me at the AOII DAte AUction" then of course it said when and where and for what. However we had to wear them for the week before. LOTS of people showed up!!!!!!!! IT WAS A BLAST

AOPride Week

I am a member of the Delta Epsilon Chapter. We have an AOPride week during the fall in which we go crazy putting our letters every where. We wear letters everyday, paint side walks, glass chalk windows, put signs up everywhere, wear pins and stickers. You name it, we do it. This coming year we are going to do it one week and on Thursday we are going to have a huge COR. Greek numbers are so low now that we actually have to have COR's year long.
