Smile Lazy Prospectives

I have been silently monitoring the questions and answers posted in this forum. I would like to say that the ladies in this forum conduct themselves in a mannerable, friendly demeanor that is pleasing to read.

Without a doubt, I am interested in pursuing membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc (hence my username), and would like to ask you ladies a question.

How do you feel about prospectives using the internet as a means of gleaning information to find out what they can about AKA? Do you think it makes potential members lazy in their quest for AKAland? I guess the reason I'm asking this is because I have noticed the same questions asked over and over throughout this forum and other websites.

How do I get into AKA? What do I do at Rush? How do I get to know current members of AKA on my campus? Again, I am a prospective myself, so I am NOT doggin' my fellow prospective sistah-friends, I'm merely questioning if we (myself included) sometimes opt to take the easy way out instead of using the same pride-swallowing, gut-wrenching membership pursuits of some of the current members of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Please let me know what you think (members and non-members). I look forward to posting here more often.

I do agree with somethings mentioned by Interested1. No I am not an AKA however, it does seem that a lot of basic questions can be answered on the official website.
However, I am very greatfull to have my questions answered by current AKA members. For examle, there is not one women of my family that pledged any sorority so, I have no clue about this whole process. By the ladies of AKA answering my questions(and doing a lot of my own research of course) I feel like they are my mentors(in a sense).
BUT NO, I DO NOT DEPEND ON THESE LADIES TO ANSWER MY QUESTIONS OR EXPECT THEM TO!
As far as laziness, I look at it in this way. If you don't have an above grade point average, a decent personality and, a commitment to community service, all the answering in the world won't help you.

Since you have been silently monitoring this forum, have any of the questions and answers helped you at all? I don't mind answering questions posted by ladies who are truly interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha. Yes, some questions have been asked more than once or twice, but sometimes people may feel more comfortable asking in their own words. I would rather have their questions answered by AKAs rather than by someone who knows nothing about us or has the incorrect information.
I think these ladies are using the internet as another resource to gather as much information as they can.

There is no easy way out when it comes to Alpha Kappa Alpha. Either you have what it takes or you don't. The real test comes when you enter the initiation process. The things we have discussed in this forum do not even begin to touch the things these ladies may one day have to know. But if they choose take that beautiful pink and green path, we are here for as much guidance as we are able to give.

Hi AKAtude, Yes, this forum and a few others similar to it have helped, and continue to help me TREMENDOUSLY.

Just yesterday, I saw a topic that someone had posted. I had been pondering about this same subject in my head for quite some time, but I was reluctant to ask the question. I read, and re-read the advice that you and Pink Bunny gave on this topic, and afterwards was relieved that I had been given even more direction in that area.

As one other sister-friend mentioned, NONE of the women in my family belong to BGLO's. To be honest with you, I am the FIRST woman in my family to go to college. Even though I try to find out as much as I can on my own, there are just some things that you won't know unless you ask, and I guess being able to do it via the internet, in an open forum, is a sign of the times we live in.

I agree with what you said about different women asking the same question but in their own words. Usually, no two situations are identical, and somtimes, just as in my own situation, someone may ask a question that another person may WANT to ask, but be afraid to for whatever the reason. OK, I'm rambling now. Anyway, thanks to all who responded to my post!! Have a blessed day ladies.....

Lightbulb The "light" or the "hype"

I have witnessed many girls whose "dream" is to become an AKA... but when you ask them why, their responses have no merit. It makes you wonder... are you insearch of the "light" or in search of the "hype"?

LOL

What I don't get is how one can be so sure about becoming a member of XYZ organization, but they are NOT willingly to work for their letters. I have always been taught that anything that I want, I have to work for it. There are many lessons to be learned as we (sisterfriends) travel this road to Greekdom.
