New Gospel CD's and a Good Book
Hey Ladies,
I recently purchased several new great gospel CD's that I wanted to tell you all about, Thankful, by Mary-Mary (they made the song "shackles", Purpose by Design by Fred Hammond, and WOW Gospel 2000. Are there any other sisterfriends that are avid listeners of gospel music also? If so, what are some of your favorite gospel songs/cd's?
Also, I just completed Toni Morrison's novel, The Bluest Eye. This is an excellent read overall, but was a little complicated for me to understand at times as she uses a plethora of symbolism in her stories.
Just wanted to share this info with all my wonderful sisterfriends out here making the "net work".

My LS told me about that Mary-Mary CD. She said it was all that! I picked up that WOW CD, but was unsure if I should get it. I'll probably get that Mary-Mary and Yolanda Adams the next time I go on my CD shopping spree.

I wanted to get the Mary Mary CD just because of that one song on the radio thanks for letting me know that the whole CD is bomb, I have also read the bluest eye too, I thought it was pretty cool, you might want to try reading "Abide with Me" by E. Lynn Harris, it has a lot of homosexuality in it but all in all it is a pretty good book

I've played my WOW Gospel 2000 to death! It has some "old school" styles on there as well as the modern day jams. It's awesome. I saw the new Fred Hammond, but I haven't gotten a chance to get it. I have his previous CD's. Richard Smallwood's "Healing" (many of you may know may have heard "At the Table") is pretty good. The Best of James Hall is also good if you like his style of gospel (which I do).
Abundantly, you'll love "The Bluest Eye".
I was digging through my books last night and pulled out an oldie but goodie called "Gal" by Ruthie Bolton, so I'm re-reading it. It's a true story about a lady that grew up near Charleston, SC (Hungry Neck).

Greetings to the lovely ladies of AKA:
One of my favorite gospel artist of all time is Fred Hammond. He recently came out with a new CD, which I have to go pick up. I have the single CD of shackles from Mary Mary and Yolanda Adams is another one of my favorite ones. Also, theirs Dawkins and Dawkins and of course Kirk Franklin who also is releasing a new CD this year. Well I have to go.
Your sister in Christ.

Hi Sorors and Sisterfriends,
I am an avid gospel music fan. I have all of the WOW CD's. On the 2000 version, I love Richard Smallwood's "Healing." I am a huge Smallwood fan. I am also an avid Yolanda Adams fan, I love her renditions of the famous hyms. I have all of her CDs.
In reference to books, I am reading The Lady, Her Lover, and Her Lord by T.D. Jakes. I've also read Woman Thou Art Loosed!! The CDs to both books are AWESOME.

Elite Ivy I am also in the mist of reading The Lady, Her Lover, and Her Lord by T.D. Jakes. Are the CD'S music or just the book on tape?
TO ALL: I have read all your post about great Gospel cd's but am not sure which are the titles or the artist for some of the selections listed. Please shout out and let me know what is good to buy...Even though Kirk Franklin is cheap when it comes to paying his singers I love the music on his cd's please clearly list artist and titles ...thanks

"The Bluest Eyes" is an excellent book. I have read it twice. Has anyone read the new book by T.D. Jakes titled "Maximize The Moment?" I just picked it up today. "The Lady, Her Lover, Her Lord was a good book also. I had a little trouble with "Abide in Me." I guess because of it was too much for my visual-mind. Anyway, WOW Gospel 2000 sounds like a good cd from the comments. Thanks for the tip.

My LS also told me about the Mary Mary CD, she said it was great. She just bought it yesterday and she was telling me last night. She said it was good, but not as enriching as the new Trinitee CD. Two of the sorors in my grad chapter along with myself, all bought Toni Morrison;s Bluest Eyes on Sun....I thought this book was very hard to get into...I am still struggling with it. Compared to the last book I read which was Maintenance Man....a have to read . I read this book with almost 300 pages in 2 days....the book is great

When you read Toni Morrison, you have to go on another level. I have a totally different mindset of approaching her writings. There is a great deal of complex symbolism involved. This is what makes her such a prolific writer. Her writings will definitely make you work for the enjoyment. I love challenging readings such as hers. Each page can be insightful and she often digs/searches into the soul. There are meanings behind the words--some political, racial, feministic, and/or just basic common sense worded in beautiful language. Her writings are much in-line with Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison and Zora N. Hurston, respectively. They, too, are writers who use words in an awesome manner.

Lady AKA, the CDs are music with some narration. I really liked them. I am going to start with "Maximize the Moment" next.
Keep me posted on your readings.

How is Trinitee 5:7's CD...I just love that song, "It's by God's grace". I am TRYING to re-re-dedicate my life back to Christ...I have been slipping and sliding and I think I have strayed too far...I am trying to throw out most of my secular CD that have negative messages/profanity/negative connotations, and I am endeavoring to find some contemporary gospel music.
I however, don't like the NEW Kirk Franklin and all of that gospel rap and stuff...I like the OLD Kirk Franklin..."Silver and Gold" and stuff like that....
Please advise!!! As I know you all will!!!
P.S. I also like Mary, Mary

Greetings Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Sisterfriends! I am a daily reader of the board, but today I needed to post a little encouragement for one of my sisterfriends.
Onesavvydiva, please know that you are never too far gone to give your life to God! I believe the following scripture can help.
"Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold new things have come."
II Corinthians 5:17
Be Blessed!!!!!

Ummm what gospel cd's do I listen too.....?
Well here it goes....
I LOVE the new Trinity 5:7 CD...it is definatly there to minister.
I purchased WOW 1999 and WOW 2000. My baby sis (13) loves the 1999 cd I favor the 2000. LOL but I have to guard BOTH of them from the other members of my family.
I bought the "Shackles" single from MaryMary. The members of the music industry know how to get someones attention though, after hearing the "samples" I had to go get the WHOLE CD. I have never regretted that purchase.
Finally I purchased the new Donald Lawrence and Tri-City Singers cd. While it is a good cd..I must say that Never Seen the Rightous is probably the best track. However my personal meditation song is Superman...brings tears to my eyes everytime!
Sorry for the long post...but I love gospel!
much ivy luv
