Smile Whos rushing Fall 2004?? I am!

I realize that most of the folks on here are girls and won't be rushing Fall until around the summertime...

But how many of you out there plan on rushing this Fall?

Have any of you already started? If so, how is it going? What do you think so far?

What do you expect your rush experience to be like?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I started rushing for Fall 2004 very early... I'd say around the end of Summer right before Fall 2003 and my senior year...
I'm still currently rushing and have already checked out maybe 7-8 different fraternities...

Doing this, I've come to the realization that rush is very stressful (even for us doing the informal thing) and requires a lot of tough decisions.

I've found that many of the fraternities I've checked out are stronger than the others, but in their own unique ways... I've gotten the opportunity to hang out with many many great guys and learn a ton about individual fraternities and greek life as a whole.

I must say its been a tough decision, but I think I've finally found a fraternity that possesses many of the strong points that the others had... Its a strong house on campus, very involved on campus, has good values which appeal to me, is big but not too big, and is a place I feel very comfortable in... I already know a couple of the brothers from high school, so this was also a major influence...

Getting to the point ---> I've got a good feeling about this house and hope to be signing very soon

I'd also like to point out that even if you've got a house in mind... It is ALWAYS best to go and check out as many others as you can... You'll always realize things others have that maybe yours doesn't.. Or vise versa... End result is that you may actually find a place you like EVEN BETTER or at the least you'll learn to appreciate the house you're thinking about joining even more... By taking a look at the others that you're passing up ...

From my rush experience I've realized that theres always more to be learned...

Anway, thats my little spiel..

Thanks! Wish me luck!!

-Matt

Matt -

It sounds like you have considered various houses and are comfortable with one in particular. That is good and an advantage to "early rush".

However, I would like to pass along this bit of advice.

Between now and when bids are given out, something may happen. For better or for worse. And it may change your feeling toward the current GLO you like. So keep an open mind and your options available.

On a personal note, I had an similar experience - somewhat.

I grew up in a college town and was rushed as a high school senior as well. However, I attended college out of town so my "early rush" was not specific to joining one of the Hometown U.'s chapters, but rushed to join the "national" fraternity.

Of the 22 fraternities at my university, eleven had chapters on my Hometown U.'s campus. There was one additional fraternity for a total of twelve fraternities at the Hometown U. But only the eleven rushed me. Of the eleven, I had friends in six of the fraternities. So while I was rushed by all, it was the six - where my friends were members - that had the greatest influence and advantage with me when I began my "official rush" that fall on my campus.

Since chapters are different campus to campus, I kept an open mind. And granted, this may be different from your situation, but keeping an open mind between my "early rush" and when it came time to accepting my bid insured that I made the right choice.

Best of luck.
