Pronuciation Question

OK, this is kind of embarassing, but how do you pronounce "lavaliere"? Is it LAH-VAH-LEER or LAH-VAH-LEE-AY? Thanks!

It's "la-va-leer." It couldn't be "la-va-lee-ay" anyway, because in French the "e" on the end of a word changes the ending sound to more of a short "e" instead of what we would think of as a long "a". So it could be "la-va-lee-err"...but I've never heard anyone say that.

That's what I thought, but I've seen it spelled "lavalier" (without the "e" at the end) which got me wondering.

I always pronounce it the French way: Lah-Vah-Lee-Ay, but I once heard it as Lah-Vah-Leer somewhere. At first I didn't understand, but I put two and two together and realized it was lavalier. I prefer the French pronunciation, but I am open to hear and say it in the English pronunciation.

AchtungBaby80 is right! Lavaliere in French is NOT la-vuh-lee-ay! La-vuh-lee-ay would be spelled "Lavaliet." Pronounce the "r" for the love of mercy!
