There has been a lot of talk here on the Beta board about finding a chapter with members of a similar age. When I was looking for a chapter, I certainly hoped to find sisters who had a lot in common with me. And I know I've made comments on the board to perpetuate this idea that a better "fit" in a chapter comes from a close age group. However, the sister to whom I feel closest is a wonderful middle-aged woman with grown children and many years of sorority experience. She's smart, funny, caring. Everything you could want in a sister. Also, the Beta Sigma Phi experience that most defined the sisterhood for me was my chapter's Spring Tea last May. We had over twenty sisters in the room ranging from age 18 to about 90. There were two pledges who had only been in sorority for a few weeks, and several sisters had close to sixty years of membership. We all had a wonderful time together. Age was not a factor. Sisterhood supercedes age. You can read the comments from these sisters at

I encourage all of the prospective members to keep an open mind when visiting chapters. The ties that bind us come from something deeper than the number of years we've lived. As Betas, we share a common mission and common values, and I hope that these ideals will help us to overlook the years on our birth certificates!
As younger members, we can take pride in being the next generation to bear the Torch. If we refuse to join older chapters, the Torch will be dropped
