Locals relationship with universities

I was wondering how other local organizations work their relationships with their university and national organizations on campus? Are you in NPC, do you have local greek council or some other way. Any info will be helpfull, Thanks

We used to be a member of our schools Panhellenic Council. Due to issues we were having we dropped out a couple of years ago. Now the University is trying to kick us off campus.

All schools are different when it comes to local organizations. Some welcome them with open arms, some are completely opposite. It vaires from campus to campus.

Not in a local but went to a university with 5 locals and 5 NPC groups. The locals held the exact same clout in Panhellenic as we did, and the university didn't look at them in any different light. BUT, they are also known for more risk management and hazing issues than the NPC groups are....whether the NPC groups hide it well or are actually following all of their rules, I'm not sure. When I was in school, there was a ton of talk about making the locals go NPC, and I understand the rationale in that it takes some of the responsibility for "watching over" them off of the University, but if you have locals, its the price you pay.

There was no local greek council. The point was to have everyone in the same system.

The University doesn't like the locals and we share the same feeling towards them. We have no NPC groups (we did, but the details on why they left are still shady), we do have 2 NIC fraternities, yet 1 is about to lose their charter. The school really doesn't help the greeks out at all, however, they will help anyone out that accuses us of anything

My chapter had its origins as a local sorority. My local was an associate member of the campus Panhellenic, which meant we had a non-voting representative and our sisters could hold minor offices, but we weren't in the rotation for the major offices. Once we were chartered as a chapter of AEPhi, of course, the chapter became a full member of Panhel.

The major snag was that our Greek Life Advisor didn't believe my local was a real sorority.

At a presentation to prospective students, he declared, "There are four sororities on campus." At the time, there were four NPC sororities, AKA, and my local. Our president was sitting in the front row, and she loudly cleared her throat. He looked over and said, "...oh, and you guys." Then instead of correcting his statement, he just went right on talking!

Wow! That's really bold! To leave out both your local AND the oldest NPHC sorority!!!
