Oprah has Gayle,
who do you have as your BEST, BEST, BEST friend (girl or guy)?
How long have you all been friends? How did you all meet?
My "Gayle" is my Soror Rhonda. She and I met during Orientation Class GSU, June 1990. That class started at 7AM (those summer sessions).
She wasn't in my "crew" while in college, but our friendship has outlived the friendship I had with my "crew".
She is a great support system
and I try to support her in like manner.

My best friend is K.H.--I don't think she wants her name out there...
We met waaaaaay back in junior high. It was the summer of 8th to 9th grade at a party where her dumb brother tried to pick me up...
Then he and his boy who was interested in me came to my house when my parents were not home... (My mom said "no boys"...) Anyhow, they walked into my house when they found out my folks weren't home and so, I got them out... Let's just say I used a "deadly weapon" and I didn't know if the safety was on...
Anyhow, both of them ran home, and were crying like babies... My friend and her father were laughing on the floor so hard, that both of them had much respect for me after that... Like her father said "serves you right for going over there while her parents weren't home..."
And that's how we became friends...

My Gayle is Heather.
We actually went to primary school together but we didn't run in the same circles. It wasn't until 7th grade that we got close & we have been inseperable ever since. So that's 14 yrs! She is the sister my mother didn't birth. Our principal would call us Frick & Frack. As in, "Frick, where's Frack?" Depending on who she saw first, that was Frick lol
She is in school in London doing her graduate studies & I will be going to visit her there week after next. I would do anything for this girl and she for me. There's nobody like my Heath lol (She hates when I abbreviate her name lol).

My Gayle is T.D. (dka "Club Med").
We met in middle school and like Soror Paradise359, it wasn't until 7th grade that we became really really close. So, let's see...that's 13-14 years for us too! We hung with the same crew but there was so many of us. It wasn't until we began to call each other (separate from our clique) that we became really close. We were cheerleaders together in middle and high school. We even went to the same college.
Oh, when I mean me and this girl have been through everything...I mean EVERYTHING. She is my pride and joy! From the time I used to watch her dance in our middle and high school dance recitals, when I kept her on the phone laughing when she developed a herniated disk in college, till now when she is working like a runaway slave towards her dream of being an accountant (a dream she's had since we were in middle school). She knows everything about me and I know everything about her.
The best picture we have together is this past December when I threw up the pinky and she threw up half of the Pyramid.
Like she will be there for me when I am studying for the Bar in July...I will be there for her when she is studying for the CPA Exam next year.
I could brag about her all day long...just like she brags about me! Now, that's a best friend!!!

Do you think that Gayle ever tells Ophra "Girl will you hush, you talk too much"? I wonder how much honesty are they able to maintain in their friendship.
Lele is my Gayle. I met Lele in line for registration in 1989. We have had ups, downs and then some. We both were very poor in college. We always looked out for one another and never kept a 'you owe me' tally. She reminded me of a time that my dad came to town and gave me like $15 of coin change (I have no idea why my dad carried that much change all the time). I took my change coin by coin and split it in half with her. I said if I'm going to be embarrassed going into a store with all this change, you should too. She didnt run with my crew. She was a staunch Christian and she would try to reign me in when I was getting to wild. God sent her to me. She blessed my life in more ways than I could speak of. Years later, she and I were pregnant at the same time. I wound up living with her and her husband while I was pregnant. We had her husband scarred to come in the house of hormones. I really dont know how my life would have turned out if it werent for 'sweet potato head'. Lele is a beautiful person.
AW.....I got to call her tommorow, cuz if I call her now she will be sleep on the phone still trying to hold a conversation.

Skeeliteful knows my best friend. In HS we had a class together so a group of us were cool but we weren't really cool. Then our first christmas break out of HS I called her because I knew she was home for break. People always sign your yearbook with K.I.T but how many of us really mean it? So we started talking and the friendship began. She has been there for me though so many tough times. And I was so happy when she finally became an AKA.
She recently got married. While I do find her very attractive she was more like the sister I always wanted. I wasn't sure however if her husband could handle her having a really close male friend. He's not threatened at all and we actually get along quite well. We share the same since of humor and at times we finish each other's sentences. So I guess she'd be my Gayle.

My 'Gayle' is
My bestest friend in the whole world is my 'sister' Michele. We met around 8th grade going to camp and wound up in HS together. We manage to go through the exact same thing at some point in our life so one can help the other one through it when they do experience it. She is getting married in July and I will be there with Bells on. People used to think we were really sisters because we favor each other so that is how that started but our friendship runs deeper than being a best friend. She moved to Charlotte a few years ago and I miss her terribly ( no one to go on our shopping trips with). I have other friends here but none as true as she is.

[HIJACK]Isn't it funny how small this world is? I went to undergrad and was a debutante with N4L's best friend and we lost touch until I saw him post a picture of her in the "Look at me" thread on Delta Ave. Since then, her and I email each other almost everyday! [/HIJACK]
My "Gayle" would be L.A., who happens to be a male. He and I met when he was the President and I was 2nd V.P. of the NAACP on campus. Even though EVERY woman on campus wanted him and he is attractive, I wasn't physically attracted to him because we were about business. One weekend he, another friened of ours, and I drove down to Miami for a concert and that had to be the BEST road trip! That's when we discovered that even though we were about business, we were both crazy as hayle! Since then, whenever we've needed someone we were there for each other...thru EVERY bit of drama/trial/tribulation/joy/happiness that we've ever experienced.

Cute thread...
My 'Gayle' is TCS. We met our freshman year in undergrad when we lived in the same dorm and have been great friends every since (over 20. We lived together off campus the summer after our sophomore year and our senior year and even that did not break up our friendship. She 'gets' me like no other and does not hesitate to call me on my BS. I told her in college (and remind her to this day) that if she ever got to be one of those parents that did not let her kids do anything I would tell them stories about our college days. I am the Godmother to her oldest, and honorary Godmother to the other two in the most serious sense of the word. If anything happens to her and her husband the kids come to me.
She was there standing next to me when I got married, helped me through my mother's illness and transition (even though she was on the other side of the world) and really make me laugh. She is truly a sister to me.
I have other close friends, but she is extra special!

My Gayles have been in my life since 7th grade, 10th grade and first summer session between freshman and sophomore year of college, respectively.

My bestfriend is E. We are polar opposites, and it's really weird that we got along so great. I was always mischievious, and she was always very sweet. We've known each other since we were two.

My Gayle is MHW, a new Ph.D. I have known MHW since 1983-84, our sophomore year at USC. There was a group of AfAm girls who would always get together and shoot the breeze in our dormitory, and we just hit it off. We were both journalism majors, among other things, and at the time we were GBIs who would listen to our girls' tales of being ducks and ivies.
MHW is still not Greek. It's not for her. But she's adventurous, hysterical and she is real. Just real.
