Question Question

Hey all. I poste dbefore but can't seem to find the dang answers or the question anyhow.
2 questions. what is the difference between walking and sighning onto a sorority versus pledging and going on line? i don not understand any of these definitions. and which is more respectable and does it depend on how that particular chapter pledges members. another question, fi you are legacy is it absolutly necessary to pledge what your family has. how is that respected? thanks.

Ms manicure: Your questions are confusing. To my knowledge, there is no sorority NPC or NPHC that you can just walk in or sign on the dotted line. We are not clubs in which anyone who is a member of the school can come and sign up and instantly be a member. In NPHC going on line is simply the time between accepting a membership invitation and becoming initiated. Think of it as "in line(on the way) to being a member" As for being a legacy, their is nothing that says you must pledge what your Mom or sister did. It is your choice however, your family members may disrespect you, not the greek family. In my sorority, many members have relatives who are members of other organizations, but felt that it was not the choice for them. Just don't expect your Mom or whoever to help you with fees for another sorority.

If I'm not mistaken, you are trying to find out what the differences between skating/being paper and pledging.......

In greek "slang" a person who skates or just signs the dotted line is someone who joins an organization strictly though MIP (membership intake process). Without going into technicalities, this usually consists of an application, interview, and other LEGAL activities.

Someone who pledges or goes on line, goes the ILLEGAL route to join. (I'll leave it at that!)

I cant tell you what people will find more respectable because there are people that believe in MIP and those that dont.

And as far as the issue of legacy, there are thousands of households that have different affiliations running through them. You do whats best for you and you will get respect. Joining something that's truly not in your heart will not be a beneficial to you or that sorority!
