Formal Hair Help

Okay. My formal is next weekend. And after much debating with myself, I have decided to go.

But I have to travel to formal (being an alum and all) and I have no car (so I have to take the stupid bus) I doubt I'll have time to have my hair done (although I will try).

So my question is, what are some easy styles to do yourself or what are some up dos that a stylist can do quickly.

My hair is layered. The longest layer is at the base of my neck and the shortest is to my chin. My hair is also wavy.

Tips ladies, please help.

my hair sounds about your length and this is what i am planning on doing if i go.

Do one of those half up/half down ponytail things and then take a flat iron and straighten the crap out of your hair. use some sort of shine serum as well.
Then with the "tail" part of the style (you know, the part you took up in the rubber band or whatever): twist it into a small bun and fasten it with chopsticks.
I remember seeing this done once and have been waiting for my hair to be long enough to do it. It looks good in my mind but may look like crap when i actually do it myself.
It may not be what you want but it gives you a direction.

That sounds inetresting. I might give it a try. I've decided when I go home to night I'm going to practice doing my hair.

I really like how Scarlett Johanson (sp?) wore her hair at the Oscars last night. I was thinking of trying something similar to that.

honestly - do a Julia Roberts at the Oscars type look:

wash and dry your hair. then take a barrel curling iron (probably 1-2 inch) and just curl small sections of your hair. shake it out - let the waves fall and hairspray it!

i think its a pretty look

I really like that, but my hair isn't long enough to do that. I don't think it would work.

Pull it up in a ponytail (make sure it's tight and sleeked back) use a 1 inch barrel curling iron until all the pieces of the ponytail are curled.
Pin the ends or middles of the tail around the base so it looks like a bundle of curls.

Pull a couple pieces around the front and back and curl those and let them hang loose.

Simple, easy, cheap, formally.
