Bipolar

Anyone else on here bipolar? I have been for years. I take meds every day though, and function normally.

I don't hide it; I'm not ashamed of it. I hate it when people treat people with mental disorders differently. I mean, would you act different towards a diabetic person? No, because that person can't help the imbalance in their body. Well guess what? I can't help the imbalance in mine, either. It's the same thing.

My roommate is bi-polar. (well our lease just ran up and we both graduated, so she's not my roommate anymore) I loved it at times....never knew what was going to come out of her mouth. She was f*cking hilarious!

She never his it either...she took so much medication it was crazy...she took lithium. She would put all her pills in a shot glass & "shoot" them. She called it a "pill cocktail"

LOL! Hilarious! Though probably not a very wise thing to do. Haha.

My father/grandfather are bipolar (grandpa is dead now). My father would not take his meds so the dz made our life a living hell-I rarely speak to him now.

I have had bouts of depression and talk freely about it. I don't hide it at all-there are too many people out there that are depressed and need to get help but are too embarrased-it's a shame.

I've been accused of being bi-polar, but I really don't think I am...I do have GAD, though. I did know one lady who said she was bi-polar, and she was the stereotype of a bi-polar person...one day, she'd be out shopping like a maniac and blowing through her checking account, then the next she wouldn't leave her house. However, I'm just not sure about that one. Being bi-polar is a very real condition, and it looked like she was just having too much fun with it.

One of my sisters is, and the new soccer coach here is.

Now, I don't know much about bi-polar disorder, but if it's something that can get out of hand easily, then the soccer coach needs to take her damn meds. Wacky woman. I quit because I couldn't deal with her crap and when I found out she was bi-polar it made sense.

New Roomie is bi-polar.

He takes his meds regularly and is very open and honest about it. I have more respect for him, and him telling me. Thats so awesome. If everyone keeps discussing it liek the fact of life that it is, eventually the stigma will dissapear. Kudos to everyone with the courage to publically discuss such a personal issue.

I'm bipolar, and have been taking meds for almost 8 years (although I can look back farther and recognize now that I have been bipolar for much longer than that). I take my meds everyday, and I've been doing really well for over a year now (my last worst "episode" was Jan. 2003, when I had thoughts of suicide and had to do outpatient hospitalization). I tend to be more toward the depressed side, but I do have the manic times too. I have never tried to hide my conditon. I have nothing to be ashamed of; I have a medical condition that I treat with medications. That's it.

Sairose: I know what you mean when you say that some people treat those with mental disorders differently. One of my bosses was talking about a son of a friend who was getting treatment for a mental disorder, and she said, "He just needs to get over it." I about screamed! Would you tell a person with cancer to "get over it"? Don't think so. Luckily, my other (main) boss knows about my conditon and is very considerate.
