Panhellenic Representation in the Big 10
Ok so I jumped on the bandwagon, but hey I figured the Big 10 can't be left out!
11 Universities are represented in the Big 10:
Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Michigan
Michigan State
Minnesota
Northwestern
Ohio State
Penn State
Purdue
Wisconsin
Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Phi, Delta Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Pi Beta Phi are represented at all 11 Universities
Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, and Gamma Phi Beta are represented at 10 Universities
Delta Zeta and Sigma Delta Tau at 7 Universities
Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Epsilon Phi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Omicron Pi, and Kappa Delta at 6 Universities
Sigma Kappa, Alpha Xi Delta, and Zeta Tau Alpha at 5 Universities
Phi Mu at 4 Universities
Delta Phi Epsilon and Sigma Sigma Sigma at 1 University
That is all......

DU has active chapters at all big 10 schools as well. Most of the chapters are well established. Ohio State and the Mich. and Mich. State chapters are smaller right now, but Indiana Purdue Illinois and Wisconsin are particularly strong.

Hey, it's an _athletic_ conference; if you nerds wanna get picky about math, go to MIT or Caltech.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Seriously, hannahgirl, thank you for the info!

Hopefully we'll be recolonizing at Michigan State and Northwestern before too long!

LOL...why actually....why even go to MIT or Caltech to study engineering when you can keep it in the Big Ten!
Purdue and Illinois have some of the best engineering programs in the country...and Michigan and Northwestern are two very prestigious institutions. And the other schools that I'm leaving out are nationally prominent in one area or another.
I dont know why Notre Dame keeps refusing to join!!!!
Maybe becuase they dont have a greek system.
We are lucky to have a conference that is solid in Athletics AND Academics top to bottom....with great greek systems to boot!
Oh...and that really is interesting information Hannahgirl...are there any groups that are not represented at all in ANY Big Ten school? I only counted 22, but I thought Penn State even had some of the smaller groups.

I know for sure that these chapters are inactive at the following Big 10 Schools:
Phi Sigma Sigma: Illinois, Michigan
Delta Zeta: Michigan
Alpha Epsilon Phi: Northwestern
As far as I know, Theta Phi Alpha has never had a chapter at a Big 10 school...but don't quote me on that! I'm pretty certain the same goes for Alpha Sigma Alpha and Alpha Sigma Tau.

Theta Phi Alpha was founded at a Big 10 school; Michigan. They have also had chapters at Illinois, Ohio State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Penn State.

Whoops! My bad on the TPA thing. I'm from the Midwest and I never heard of TPA before Greekchat (and I have/had family at most Big 10 schools)....they must have come and gone way back in the day....they're definitely not at Michigan or Illinois now!

Theta Phi Alpha is not active at Penn State UP but at a branch campus. However, Alpha Sigma Alpha has a very strong chapter here though as well as Sigma Sigma Sigma.

Russell's right, Wisconsin had a TPA chapter. Wisconsin also has closed chapters of Phi Mu, Phi Sigma Sigma, DZ, KD, AGD, Alpha Xi Delta, AOPi, ADPi, and Sigma Kappa -- although some of these have been closed for a LONG time. I believe KD, AGD and Alpha Xi were the most recent, in the past twenty years or so.

On the NIC side, Phi Psi has a chapter at every Big 10 school except for Wisconsin. We were in Madison from 1875 until 1939.

If I have my universities right, ADPi actually has open chapters at 7 of the Big 10: Illinois (Urbana-Champaign), Indiana University, University of Iowa, University of Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, and Penn State
We've also been at all 11: Our Michigan State chapter (Gamma Omega) closed in 1978, our University of Minnesota chapter (Alpha Rho) closed in 1987, our Purdue chapter (Gamma Epsilon) closed in 1993, and our Wisconsin chapter (Alpha Mu), which sugar and spice mentioned, closed back in 1934!

I knew that there was an ADPi chapter at Ohio State, however, they are not listed on OSU's Greek Life website http://www.ohiounion.com/greek_life/chapters.asp?Org_Type=2
Did they recently come off campus??
