i am sitting here at home vegging out and watching movies, enjoying the day!

this question might be for chit chat but i wanted to know what movies brought tears to my sorors and sistah friends eyes, guys can answer to. (guys get emotional, too!!)

i just finished watching "The Color Purple" and the scene when Shug was singing "Sista" and then started singing "God is trying to tell you something" when she was reunited with her father brought tears to my tears.

but when cecily and netty came together i was boo-hooing all over the place.

I was supposed to be participating in a MLK parade today, it's raining, but...

a boo-hoo movie of mine is...
Imitation of Life....that ending and MAHALIA singing at the funeral....

It makes me appreciate my mother more and more everytime I see it!

I know but as I have learned CRYING is good for the soul. Some of the movies, I cry every time but some I only cry once or at an emotional time in my life. For instance, after my dad died and I watched The Lion King and the scene where Mufasaa is killed and I BOO HOOed like a baby.

oh, I cried during the wedding scene of The Wood...it was just so overwhelming (lol), then I looked over and saw my boyfriend was shedding a few tears....then I really got emotional....lol

when I was a little girl, I cried in one of those Benji movies...all I know is that Benji could not find his way back home...

Can a Nasty Q-Dawg show his soft side? I have never cried at a movie, but I must admit that in THE COLOR PURPLE, when Miss Celie met her sister, I had a little catch in my throat, plus my date and every other woman were balling their eyes out. It was tough not to feel something.

BOYZ in the HOOD: when Morris Chestnut got shot and the mother was in denial, trying to wake him up and his girlfriend was screaming. Didn't cry but that reminded me of when my cousin was shot and my aunt and female cousins crying hysterically. That was too close to home.

TOY STORY 2: when the Cowgirl was explaining how her owner took her to a dump and left her when she went off to college. The song playing in the background was, unexpectantly, very sad. All the adult women around me were cying and my date was squeezing my hand very tightly (she still slept with her favorite stuffed animals).

IMITATION OF LIFE: is my Dad's favorite movie. He owns the tape, but I have never, ever seen him cry.

1. Color Purple: Boo Hoo when Sophia has her encounter with Miss Millie and the Hell No. I boo hoo when Celie helps her in the store and I boo hoo like Crazy on my song, God's Trying to Tell You Something

2. Imitation of Life: Yes the funeral for me too

3. Fried Green Tomatoes

4. BAPS: I cried when the old man died. A lot of people knocked this movie but if you remember it was the 90's female version of Disorderlies

5. Remember the Titans

6. Simon Birch: When the mom and Simon died

7. Stepmom

8. Roots

9. How Stella Got Her Groove Back: When Whoopie died and she sang Row Row Row Your Boat

10. Love and Basketball: Final B-ball scene, "I'll play you. . . for your heart (BIG OLD BOO HOO)

11. The Lion King

12. Soul Food Whem Big Mama died

13. THE GREEN MILE : John Coffey's part in this movie was very emotional and heartfelt.

There are some more but these are the TOP 13 that instantly came to mind. Can you tell I am procastinating on grading these papers??

WOW!!! Toy Story 2!! That's deep!! I cried at the toast in The Wood!! I was feeling that.

Boyz in the Hood was a tear jerker as well as Poetic Justice when TuPac came in to the beauty shop.

Okay, DoggyStyle I was totally not expecting Toy Story2. That part was very sad! I'm trying to imagine this big old Que's throat getting a little clogged over it!

Here goes my list:

#1 Color Purple - sistah girl is sangin that song down to the church. I get the chills in the roots of my hair and then they travel through me.

#2 Beloved - In the shack, where Oprah was swingin the baby, "Beloved", around like a sack of potatos because the white slave owners are coming to get her. HONORABLE MENTION, the scene where they're milking her!

#3 When A Man Loves A Woman - Andy Garcia is explaining to his step-daughter that he has to move away from them- (childhood scene for me)

#4 Phenomenon - John Travolta is dying in his girlfriend's arms.

#5 Frosty the Snowman - Last but not least, every year 'as a child' I would cry my heart out when he'd go into the train as a Snowman and would end up a puddle on the ground. My mom used to watch me each year, while I was watching it and wait for that part so she could laugh at me. **She told me this years later!

OHMIGOSH!!! Soror, I cried on the Benji movie, too!! They NEVER show the original movie anymore, only the sequels. I want the original!

I have a few movies I cry on:

1) Father of the Bride - I have seen this movie only once, and will never watch it again. I can't handle it.

2) When a Man Loves a Woman

3) The Color Purple (I cry EVERY TIME she starts walking to the church. And it has nothing to do with the movie, per se, she actually ministers to me with that song.)

4) Imitation of Life

5) My Life (I have given up on Michael Keaton movies, too, I can't handle the daddy movies.)

6) Jack Frost (I saw this before I gave up on Michael Keaton.... this was the determining factor.)

7) Armaggedon

8) Beaches ('nuff said)

9) Runaway Bride ("I guarantee . . .")

10) Notting Hill ("I'm just a girl, standing in front of a guy, asking him to love her.")

Ok, CrimsonTide, I feel you on Love and Basketball, for real. I have seen the Lion King countless times, I have only watched the part with Mufasaa ONCE. I fast forward thru it everytime. I can't handle the daddy movies. And I saw Father of the Bride BEFORE my father died. I was a freshman at college, and I missed my daddy!!!

By the way, CrimsonTide, you couldn't do service with me yesterday because of grading those papers, I ain't forgot!

DANG CALL ME OUT!!! OOOOOOO I had forgot about Beaches, from Wind Beneath My Wings on, I am a sucka.
Moni, I really was trying to grade papers but it just was not happening. So I decided my service would be to make sure you had things to read and respond to on Greek Chat. MLK Day and the 16th is just hard for me. MLK reminds me of my dad doing the I HAVE A DREAM SPEECH and the 16th . . .

I am with the soror and Moni who said that the song ministers to her and it just leaves chills all up and down my back. Seeing her make that walk back to her daddy is so emotional. I showed it to my juniors and when she hugs her daddy, I fall out. Alice Walker and Steven Spielberg just don't know that that song is like the hit of the century. EVERYONE knows that song.

6. The General's Daughter (the coverup)

7. Beloved (the scene in the shack)

8. Waiting to Exhale (it always gets to me)
