Do grades really matter?

Definitely yes! A lot of places like to brag about the all-Greek GPA being higher than the average all-school GPA. Many houses will have a GPA requirement higher than the minimum GPA for rush. (Most of the houses at IU did.) In addition, a lot of schools have competition for the highest house GPA so someone with a 4.0 would definitely be an asset!

Not to mention, houses like people who take academics seriously and won't flunk out immediately after pledging!

You should be very proud of your GPA. That's a great accomplishment!

Congratulations on your GPA; it is something to take pride in! Having said that, I would advise you NOT to bring it up in conversations during COB. If it's on your form for recruitment, the sorority chapters will know about it. Some people -- rightly or wrongly -- feel intimidated by other people who have high grades. You don't want to unintentionally scare people away -- you want to give them every chance to like you.

Are good grades something that sororities look for? Yes, and some individual chapters emphasize academics more than others. An excellent GPA is a plus, but not the sole factor in considering whether someone would be chosen as a new member.

Now, of course if someone __asks__ or mentions your GPA, you can certainly acknowledge it, but you probably shouldn't dwell on it.

I agree with exlurker. If they COB you, they'll know about the GPA. Individuals may not, which is why someone may ask you--or they may just ask if they're running out of conversation--but this is something you want to be modest about unless asked!

I think I'd err on the side of modesty, too. If the GLOs know about your GPA, and someone brings up scholarship, then mention that you made the Dean's List, rather than announce you earned a 4.0. If they question you further, then you can modestly say that you earned a 4.0.

Sororities really want grades; after all, that's why your in college! But they're also looking for well-rounded scholars!

A 4.0 is something to be very proud of and sororities definitely look for that. However, I would not bring it up during recruitment. Like others have mentioned, the sororities will know your GPA through your application. Unless they ask you specifically about your GPA during conversation, I wouldn't bring it up.

I'm going with the majority on that one.
You never really know who is rushing you. The girl could have a learning disability, or is working her butt off for a 2.5 and here you are announcing you have a 4.0 (which is a great accomplishment, don't get me wrong). But it can easily be turned around if the girl tells the sisters later during voting, "OMG, she was such a snob, she kept talking about how she had a 4.0 and practially rubbing it in my face", which sadly, does happen.
The girls will know your GPA, and if they bring it up, by all means, respond. But don't bring it up first.

Yes! In fact, most houses I know do a LOT of cutting based on grades. The girls with lower GPA's tend to get less invites back, so you are as good as gold.

GPA, yes means a lot!

But, if you do not fit into the mold of a ceratin group that you want, do not be surprised if you are not chosen! That is the way it is! A lot depends on the School and what are all of the rules of recruitment!

There are more than one thing to be dependent on to get a bid from a Greek Organization!

We are not any different than anyother Organization.
