National African American Parent Involvement Day
National African American Parent Involvement Day
Take Your Child to School/Visit Your Child in School
ACROSS THE NATION - NAAPID IS THE CONVERSATION! Plan now to Take Your Child to School/Visit Your Child in School on Monday, February 9, 2004 in observance of the Ninth Annual National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID).
Celebrated annually on the second Monday in February, NAAPID is a national to call to action aimed at creating and maintaining positive parent-school-community partnerships to enhance the academic success of our young people. The initiative was inspired by Joseph Dulin, principal of Roberto Clemente Student Development Center in Ann Arbor, MI. Dulin believes that, Every parent wants their child to have a better quality of life than they themselves had. It is the American dream, and for many African Americans, this dream has not been realized as a result of their child's failure in school. Education is the key to success and parents are educators greatest allies. Without question, he credits the success he has experienced as an educator, for more than 30 years, to parent involvement. I am convinced, and research shows, the more parents are involved in the educational lives of their children, the better their educational outcomes. Even though the day is specifically designed to be "parent friendly" to parents of children of African American descent, all parents are encouraged to participate in this win/win endeavor.
On this day, thousands of parents and family members visit their children in schools across the nation. The National Parents Day Coalition and many other groups and individuals have recognized and supported NAAPID, including governors, mayors, school boards, school officials, business executives and community leaders. This year, it is anticipated that even more parents will visit their children in schools throughout the nation and in some foreign countries. This promises to be the largest gathering of African American parents ever taking their children to school/visiting their children in school for NAAPID on Monday, February 9, 2004.
NAAPID needs YOU to make it happen in 2004! TAKE YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL/VISIT YOUR CHILD IN SCHOOL ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2004.
PRESS CONTACT: Joseph Dulin, 734.434.4611 and NAAPID Office, 800.351.4097, 734.434.5281 (fax), naapid@aaps.k12.mi.us

Re: National African American Parent Involvement Day
I was thinking that as I read the article, especially on the part where it said it was usually celebrated the second Monday of Feb. I was thinking I was just deprived or something, LOL!

HMP! You're being facetious, but I do see parents @ 8AM (in the front office) with a scarf around their high stacked "don't" and big fuzzy slippers come in the office to see a counselor or disciplinarian, principal, or teacher.
Instead of wearing HIS azz, they want to wear YOUR azz out!

aaaaaaaah the sweet precious memories
and let us not forget the mamas who come to school wearing a matching Rocawear sweatsuit like their child but claims they can't afford to buy Quintavious Lamar a copy of a book nor do they have a library card. . .
They be so quick to jump bad with you too but their child can't read.

I feel you on that one!!! I'd rather spend a day Borders with my son then go shopping for Sean John, Rocawear, or G-Unit in the mall. Our children are our future...we need to get on the ball and off the high horse!!!! And I've never heard of this...thanks for the info.

They sent out flyers in my daughter's school, but they just called it National Parent Involvement Day. I guess they want everyone to be involved, but this gave me deeper info about the whole thing. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. I am definitely attending my daughter's school this day.
