This is kind of related to the questioning majors thread, but since it's such a darkly humorous story, I thought I'd make a new thread about it. I have two majors, English and Psychology, and yesterday, I got a sign from God that I need to drop the psych major.
In behavior analysis lab, which is required for all psych majors, each lab group is assigned a pigeon to work with. We weigh the pigeons for about a week, then we put them on a diet to get them down to 80% of their free-feeding weight before we start the actual behavior experimentation.
Anyway, my partner's and my pigeon got sick about a week ago. It wouldn't eat the little bit we were allowed to give it since it was on a "diet," and it had diarrhea (I know, nasty image). So we told our professor about it, and he said not to worry, because pigeons often get sick, and that it would be okay soon enough. Well, yesterday, when we went to go get the pigeon out of its cage for the first day of experiments, the pigeon was DEAD! So now, my lab partner and I have been given a new pigeon, and we're about a week behind everyone else!
I told my boyfriend about it, and he said, "Randi, I think it's a sign from God that you shouldn't be a psych major!" He said it jokingly, but I'm starting to think he's right. I mean, if my animal "clients" are already starting to commit suicide by not eating, just imagine what'll happen when I start working with humans!
Stupid bird.
