Weahter forecast-- can they ever get it right???

The weather men have been forecasting a huge snow storm here. Since early last week we have been hearing on Saturday it would begin snowing and by Sunday afternoon there would 12" of snow on the ground.

I went to Walmart last night--- there was nothing there. I bought the last bag of tater tots (no other frozen potato things left), the last mac n' cheese, the last 2% milk, last loaf of bread, they were already out of spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, chili seasoning, almost out of chips. I heard the manager talking to someone saying from 8am till 8pm they have sold $445,000 worth of things.

You can't find shovels, ice melt or sleds anywehre in this city!!! It is unreal. The weather guy predicts a snow storm and the city panics!!!

As of last night--no snow. Starting early this morning we were getting freezing rain and sleet. The forecast is now calling for 1/2" of ice, snow starting at 10pm and by tomorrow there will be 3-6"-----what happened to the 12"???? I would rather have 12" snow then 1/2" of ice!!! yuck!!!

Earlier in the week they were predicting 12-18" on Thursday of this upcoming week--- I am sure we will never see that!!!

Why can't I do my job wrong, but still have enough power to provoke panic???

Meteorologists should be paid on commission. Get it right, get paid.

They're 90% accurate --- 10% of the time.

GREAT Idea.

My sister and I bitch all the time about how thats the only job you can have, and be wrong all the time, and not get fired. If I was wrong all the time, I'd last 3 weeks. If that.

Having taken a class on meteorology (and flunked it) many years ago at OU, it sure isn't as easy predicting the weather as the weatherguessers on TV make it sound. (Plus you get to play with crayons as well (blue and red ones to mark the cold/warm fronts.)

Even the best computer models (the latest tool for the weather forecaster) have been known to go wrong, especially in areas where weather prediction is tricky (mostly in the Plains states and Texas). To top it off, the panic mentality instigated by the newscasters is enough to set off a stampede to get the last of the needed items to ride out the approaching sh*tstorm.

Red face

Wendi,

Can so agree!!!!!!

While sitting at Pc on GC, it was freezing rain, then large goose feather size flakes and covered the gound in 20 min. Then of course stopped and back to freezing rain.

All I can say is thank god we missed the big bullit.

Kansas City Area, got to love it, never a dull weather moment!

Hell, people were fighting in the grocery stores for food! Thank god I did mine on Wed.

A the mania built by the News Media! No offense DeltaAlum!!!!!

No joke. Here in Oklahoma we were supposed to be under around 10 feet of snow tonight. Not even a drop of rain fell.

Same yesterday..

Now they predict snow tommorow
