you awake?
I note a whale of a drop in postings in the TKE site...and I note
only one new chapter in the past two years...we continue to
have losses -- tho not the only ones. Several fraternities have
been either lied to or shielded from the loss numbers. CU has
ten chapters off at the present time. Musical chairs. Some of the
larger outfits are losing at least five a year. Reviving about the
same, hardly a position of pride. How many dead TKE chapters
near you? Are any of them slated for revival?
These shopping center diploma mills are hardly good prospects for a new TKE chapter either....you awake?
Apathy set in? Apathy...neither for it or against it?
TKE has not set the world afire, either, reactivation-wise...but neither has anyone else--tho Pike certainly looks good...
While TKE is still amongst the top five, size-wise, the figures are
hardly inspiring. Us yankees have no sabers to polish or bloomers to press...so what are we doing?
Wonder what kind of era we are entering? The flag is up...
What is your chapter doing? If you are under 40 in size you are
gonna be in deep doo-doo and likelihood of success is dim...You
sure as H would be a failure in the real world...
'course, our limpdick leaders and candidates for office are not exactly setting the world afire...er, poor choice of words!
Anyway, fraters, you awake?

on a bright note:
Beta-Beta is wide awake. Tonight we initiated 9 quality men, raising our total for the year to 20. In initiating these guys, we have become the 4th largest chapter (out of 23 IFC chapters) at a 30,000 person university.
what have we done?
we implemented the Triangle Achievent Program for summertime recruitment....we have maintained solid relations with our alumni (in turn, we received a $3 million house which you can read about in The Teke magazine)....we became involved in as many clubs on campus as we could and used those as rush tools....we have had a TKE on the IFC exec. board for the past 5 years.
there are so many things that you can do! take it from a member of a chapter that went from 22 men in 1998 to 75 as of tonight.
I agree that it is hard work to stay on top, but when we assumed our bond, we promised to contribute all that we had to make TKE better. There's a challenge for everybody--DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO MAKE YOUR CHAPTER THE BEST IT CAN BE!!!

I'd say we're doing something right here at Epsilon Kappa. This time last year, we were an interest group with only 3 guys. Now, we are a fully installed Chapter with 38 returning guys. This is at a University with only 7,500 undergrads....and 63% are women!
We were runner up for Chapter of the Year for the school. We boast the Greek man of the Year. We won the Philanthropic event of the year. And that is just to start!
But we are not done...Next year we complete the takeover of this campus.

We are awake
At Beta-Xi we initiated 23 in the fall and 6 this spring. We grew to about 60 dues paying members as of right now. It was a tough year of alchoholic sanctions(no alcohol in the fraternity house for a calendar year) and fines for getting into two fights with two other fraternities last spring. It took our chapter as a whole to understand that we are not a drinking club. And if we kept fighting it was going to hurt our reputation and kill moral. We finally realized that our fraternity was heading in the wrong direction. We held our heads up high with pride and rushed and initiated one of our recent big pledge classes this past fall. It was tough not being able to throw parties like the other fraternity houses on the row. It would have been easy to throw parties and get into more trouble. Then came spring with the newly elected E-board's leadership and hard work. Our chapter as a whole has done a 180 degree turn around. Our internal problems have dimminished within the house. We had awsome sociols, bad-ass date parties and ended the spring with our biggest RCB ever, with over 50 active and alumni members going. We are expecting 30 plus guys to live in the house next fall, and almost the entire E-board living at the house over the summer to prepare us for next fall. Overall it was risk management, internal problems, and no leadership that almost killed us. But with the new E-board came a new attitude and pride I had never seen before in our guys. The few guys that caused problems were dealt with swiftly. When a chapter dies it most likely comes from lack of leadership, poor attitudes and no risk management. We learned the hard way, and it almost took us down. It comes down to how well each member of a house functions in and outside of the fraternity. Because one guy can bring the whole house down. Unfortunatly our neighboors at San Diego State recently lost their charter because of the above reasons. They were a power house and now are gone. It is sad to see this happen to a group of good guys, but it makes our chapter realize how easily we can lose all that we worked for. We are shooting to initiate 30 guys next fall and if when we succeed in doing so, the sky is the limit for our chapter.

Beta Xi rises!
TKE was the first fraternity at ASU, the first on the row, and the
first to unceremoniously leave. A couple of tries later, we are back and you sound like you really have it together.
Founder Mayer is smiling down on you, and rightly so!

PS...our CU colony going well, too...

Asleep in GA
The UGa chapter has been closed all year, and the house sold (fortunately for enough to pay off all the loans and keep 30 of us stupid alumni from having to pay up).
This was a chapter that won Top Teke Chapter for 10 years in a row.
Then they got a house with big columns on the main drag.
I don't think they ever won another award after getting the big house.
At one point, the BOC pres. decided that the chapter pres. and treas. should be paid (his younger brother was the treas.). One Prytanis told the board that since the alumni owned the house, the alumni should collect the rent.
Following several emergency loans and a Buckwheat revival (pictured on The Teke cover), it was bye-bye.

We're under 40 but thats to be expected, no recognition and a system that is unknown to the general populous. Doesn't excuse it, but just gives us goals to strive for.
Canada is the fraternities future, i've said this to everybody who i've talked to at IHQ, this country is where the US was 50 years ago when it comes to greeks. It's an untapped resource that we are trying to tap. 1 new colony (University of Ontario Institute of Technology) another interest group in the works, we just barly lost out at one of the most progressive greek schools in the country (Sir Wilfred Laurier University, we came in second to Phi Delta Theta) , but you'd better believe we won't stop trying.
There are no dead chapters around us, cause there was never any chapters to begin with. We're trying to make all the inroads we can. Is it any suprise the Maple Leaf is red?

Canadians are cool
I spent my honeymoon at the great Teke Conclave in Toronto (Motto: Drink Canada Dry)
Was back to Toronto for a long weekend two weeks ago (couldn't get Leafs playoff tickets for less than $300 standing room only). Unfortunately, it was cold and wet all weekend, and things are very high priced in Canadian and US $$$$.
I suggest Cora's restaurants for breakfast.
Customs going into Toronto - 5 min.
Customs (US) leaving Toronto - 55 min.
Good to here TKE doing well in Canada.
