Would you hook up with a subordinate, student, or patient?
Well?

Well, since I'm an education major, it's highly illegal for me to (since my subordinates will be 7th-12th grade students).

As long as they were legal and not . . . whats the word . . . super sensitive types, overly high strung.

Subordinate or patient? Probably not.
Student? Maybe.
Only if he was legal. And not during the time of instruction.
When I was a senior in college, I taught an Intro to Poli Sci Freshman Seminar course for a semester. There was a guy in class, a little bit older than me (non-trad student) that I was very attracted to.
We used to have lunch every now and then and he asked if he could take me out. I knew I couldn't, but luckily there was only a month left till the end of the semester so we waited till then.
And we had a grrrrreat time.

No.
My mother worked as a nurse in a hospital for many years from the mid 1960 until the mid 1970s. Many of her patients 'fell in love' with her. The hospital was located near Madison Square Garden so her patients included professional athletes especially basketball and hockey players. It would have been inappropriate for her to date them, but it sure could have been fun to date one of the Knicks when they were champions.

NO!!!!!
Though Lord knows I've had enough hitting on me...
This one student was talking to me and another first year teacher a few weeks ago... they found out that she was 22 (I'm 23, which none of them know) and said that it was only 4 years older than some kids there, so we could probably date students. No way. Ew.
One of my co-workers also got this brilliant idea to try to set me up with another teacher there... he's still young... but he was my teacher senior year! I don't care if it was his first year... Something's just all sorts of creepy with that.

I just remembered this story! One of my teachers who was fresh out of college and a first year teacher married one of my classmates. I don't think that they were together in high school, but who knows. They are divorced now.

Right after I graduated from high school, our head coach married the head cheerleader and the band director divorced his wife and married one of the majorettes. Who knew anything was going on?
But...when I was a new professor, age 24, there was this cute guy, 27, on the college staff who was taking some of my courses.
 I married him.

I used to hook up with clients all the time
Hahaha, kidding, but they did ask me out and propose marriage all the time.

Since I'm usually 5-6 years older than my "students" (if and when I have them) - definitely not.

Wow, that's really interesting! How long did it take you to finish your Ph.D? What's your field?

I would hook up with them only after our professional relationship had ended. I can only imagine things getting weird if you're dating someone and trying to grade their papers at the same time.
