Fraternity racially insults guest at party
One of my sisters told me something that really made me mad.
She (my sister) went to her favorite fraternity over the weekend and she took two of her friends over to their house. 2 of the brothers proceeded to say to her are you responsible for this and not understanding what they were talking about they went on to explain that was she responsible for bring the black people.
This made me so mad that I'm going to bring this up to my sorority at our meeting sunday and to suggest that we do not do anything else with this fraternity. Side not we have a mixer planned with them the third week of february. She says that the fraternity is taking care of this but I do not feel as though we should associate with them anymore.
Also, this fraternity also insulted another oney of my sisters who is also my roommate at homecoming by calling her out of her name because we were leaving a party.
What would you do if you were in this situation?

Personally, I think whatever action you take should be THOROUGHLY EXPLAINED to the fraternity, in writing, preferably.
It's definitely your prerogative to not be associated with racists, but if you don't explain that to them, there is no opportunity for them to apologize, change, or discipline the offending members.

Just a minute... Your sister & roomie was insulted back at Homecoming and you're still associating with these clowns? That's NOT how it's supposed to work!
As Senusret said, you most definitely need to tell these guys, in writing, exactly why you as a sorority are upset, and what you expect them to do about it.
Something on the lines of brothers have insulted your sisters on an ongoing basis, but the racial slurs were beneath the dignity of any mature college student would be good. The brothers involved should apologize to those they have insulted, and a public general apology for their lack of class and/or tolerance could be demanded. The letter should be written in a mature, nonemotional way, with a copy sent to their national headquarters.
Until these are fulfilled, you as a sorority should not continue to associate with this fraternity. Yes, that sounds drastic. But it works.

I agree with Senusret I. It was wrong of them for making that type of statement. Writing a letter is a good way to let them know that type of behavior is unacceptable. Besides, I'm sure there are other Fraternities your Sorority can have a mixer with.

I would not send a copy to their HQ that is going too far beyond your own business. I agree with Suerset that you should put it in writing, but I would suggest that it be from your secretary to theirs.

After one time...
Shame on them, after a second then shame on you..its obvious these guys have no respect or class and they do not deserve you or your fellow sisters company. As a previous post stated, I wouldnt go to HQ with it, but would definately send a formal letter from your chapter to theirs addressing the issue and encouraging the person(s) that made the comments to attend some diverse events for enlightenment especially with black history month a week away.

I beg to differ.
Anyone wearing my letters is representing me. If a chapter of my sorority is acting like a bunch of low-class racists, it affects me, too. One of the purposes of having an International Headquarters is so they will step in and remind these clods that they represent the entire GLO, and in this case, an apology is needed.
There is never an excuse for rudeness; there's even less excuse for racist remarks.
ETA: "racist remarks OR racism at all!"

Too bad nothing will happen. The fraternity isn't going to launch an investigation and nobody ever will hold this against them. But write the letter so you feel you at least did something. I personally think an email to the newspaper would help.

I'm a little confused here. Am I the only one here is thinking "why would they blacklist an entire fraternity chapter because of what two of their brothers said?
I want to be perfectly clear and say that what those two said was in NO WAY right, but why would you cut all ties because of two members?
I'm also a little confused about the second part: "Also, this fratnerity insulted another one of my sisters..."
Was it the entire fraternity or just a couple of it's members?
I think you just just do what you want with it, but remember: Don't burn any bridges you may need to cross later.

Granted, there are different ways of handling this, but the way I've seen that's the most effective is to immediately (as in, this should have happened 5 minutes after the original insult), the sorority leaves, and a letter stating that, when a brother of ABC insults a sister of XYZ, the entire chapter is insulted, and the sisters expect an immediate apology. Maybe it was my school, but that was standard operating procedure. If an apology wasn't received within 2 days, a second letter was written, with a copy sent to the Executive Office.
Needless to say, I think the time has passed in this particular case, but when everyone realizes the gravity of ONE brother insulting ONE sister, it makes for a much kinder and respectful greek system.
