The "L" Word on Showtime
Ummmmmmm. Did anyone see this new series? I don't think I can watch it. I'm not discriminating (QAF), but ummm...

I watched the show. I felt it was tastefully done, QAF is much more revealing. What did you find about it?

Nawwwwww, QAF, IMO isn't as revealing.
I guess I find the idea of "L" (not love, laughter, listening) as .
To each her own, but... "M" is for me.

Pam Grier hopes lesbian show will stamp out myths
By WENN
Published January 19 2004
Actress Pam Grier is hoping her new TV show about a group of lesbians will serve to educate the public and dispel negative stereotypes.
The iconic Foxy Brown star joins Jennifer Beals in The L Word, which premiered on TV screens on Jan. 18. The show hopes to showcase non-heterosexual women in a more realistic light.
Grier says, "Our society has evolved and we're much smarter and much more tolerant and accepting.
"This is my family of acceptance and I know what it's like. A group of women who are lesbian or bisexual or curious or whatever can't possibly change their sexuality like I can't change the color of my skin.
"And as we start talking about the depths of our characters, I think our society will be enlightened and educated and informed. And there won't be the myths and the stereotypes, which are so negative."

My friends and I saw the billboard and we thought it was a Sex and the City rip off (since it's going off the air soon) set in another city. How come we were shocked?!?

I'm not shocked. I knew the show was about Lesbians....have known for months. I'm not into it (the show). I guess that's the only smilley ( ) that would best describe my emotion (that is available on THIS site). Still, I prefer watching QAF.
Re: Pam Grier. I guess so. She wants the show to do well. ($$$)

I watched this yesterday and it was interesting. I've never seen so many women on one show - it was odd. I think there were about 3 guys (maximum). Are lesbian communities like that? All the women just hang together - no gay guys, no heteros??? And they were all around the same body type - that just seemed unreal to me. I don't know if I'd watch it again - it wasn't scandalous but definitely odd. Like the love scene with the women was just odd to me.
So, is Pan Grier a lesbian because yall's posts have me a little lost. I've never watched Queer as Folk. I saw a few minutes of one episode but there seem to be a wider variety of characters.

I don't know. When I watched the special prior to the premiere, I thought that Pam was only the 1/2 sister to Jennifer Beals' character who is a former entertainer with an alcohol problem.

Okay I went to Showtime's site and AKA2d'91 is right. Pan Grier's character is a former alcoholic entertainer as well as Jennifer Beals' half-sister.
I also had a question, on the show yesterday, they we "detecting" whether or not this one chick was a lesbian. Their criteria were her nails (long or short), shoes (heels or worn), etc. Has anyone heard of this?? Is that really how to tell? Because it seemed a bit silly/inconclusive to me.

When QAF first came on, I must admit I wasn't feeling it. As time went on, hell it became one of my favorite shows.....but I haven't watched the L Word, and I doubt that I will. I know I may get some hate mail, but I can't watch the women. Even on QAF when they show the women, I can't really watch that either.

We are EYE 2 EYE!
Kiml122...I see we are HEYA!
I didn't get hate mail. It's your opinion, it's how you feel. What can another with a dissenting opinion do to you or say about you?

I finally watched QAF and there was a little too much nudity. So I think I'll keep away from both shows. Too much going on.

AKA2D, yeah I feel you on it being my opinion, but there have been times where I got some hate mail...and it was still just my opinion.....you know what I'm saying. Regardless of what I get, like you said it's still my opinion....and this is a public forum.

Speaking of this show, my co-worker watched it, and I have a friend that watched it. Both stated that they would not be watching it again. Now they were both female. One of my male co-workers was all over it, but he also watches QAF as well.....go figure.
