With all due respect to any French Persons onboard...That's pretty damned funny.

That's pretty funny.

I'm not a French military history expert, did anyone win anything besides Napoleon?

I think they won the 100 year war.

Charlemagne was a winner as was Charles Martel (turned back an invasion from North Africa).

Could be. After that long, they were too bored to write it down.

The magazine above missed out on another new piece of French Airborn Technology...

It's a special new parachute.

Opens on impact.

(OK, so that was originally a Polish Joke. No offense is meant to anyone -- this could be told with any nationality)

No, they won.. They were getting their butts kicked by superior English technology (like the longbow). Then Joan d'Arc came and rallied them to victory. Until that time, Brittany northwestern france was really part of the English kingdom.

You're both right. He was born in Corsica in 1769. France had annexed Corsica in 1768. It had previously been an Italian state. His family was Italian nobility.

He won some battles, but lost the "Napoleonic Wars".

I still maintain the last time the French could really claim victory in a war was the 100 years war. You might also be able to make an argument for WWI. The Germans did take most of France but they were held at the Seine.

I would say that the French were successful during the the 16th and early 17th centuries and the various wars of succession. They were one of if not the leading great power during that time.

I was also going to argue that they could have also claimed victory in the American Revolution. They commited troops to the fight, used their navy to attack and blockade the British, on top of launching attacks on other British possessions (forcing the British to stretch out their military). The French even convinced the rest of main-land Europe to recognize the fledgling United States and impose economic penalties on British goods.... also don't forget were the peace treaty was signed: Paris.

The documentary that I saw made no mention of Italy.

It is called, "The Corsican Brothers"
