Update!
Hello, Sisters,
I just got back from the hospital. My mama had a heart attack - last week, the tests say!! - and has fluid in her lungs. I'm typing this with her little, heartbroken dog in my lap. She has further tests tomorrow, but she does look a lot better than she did yesterday. I was going to put it on the prayer request thread earlier, but as they say, pride goeth before a fall.
Sorry for the breakdown in communication earlier today. I did what I could as quickly as I could, and I see that many of you all did the same! Violets to EACH and EVERY ONE of you!!!!
L&L,
Honey

Thanks, honeychile!
I'll be praying for your mama!
It's so difficult to see our parents go through these types of trials & sickness. Here's some advice I've learned when dealing with my parents' illnesses (I know you didn't ask for it, so just ignore it if you want!)
*Write everything down- statistics (blood pressure, amnt of medication, etc.), next appts, etc. It's such an emotional time and that makes it hard to remember things, even very important things.
* Be an advocate for your parent- if you don't agree with the doctor/situation/whatever, speak up! It's kind of role reversal- you kind of take a parental role for a while. If you can't make headway, ask to speak to the Patient Advocate at the hospital. They can often help with scheduling dilemmas and such.
*Get a 2nd opinion!
*The Mayo Clinic ROCKS for diagnosis, surgery, advice, and support.
We love you and of course your mama, too! Please let us know how she's doing!
L&L,
WeLiveForEachOther
PS- THANKS for taking care of our sensitive subject here. I am sure you did not need that on top of everything else.

Thank you, WLFEO and everyone else who takes a moment to pray!!
My daddy died only 17 months ago in the same hospital, same drama, and there were SO many flashbacks! But, we have a better diagnosis this time (my dad had an aneurysm that should have been caught 3 years earlier!), and we just feel surrounded by the prayers of God's people! She has already pinked up considerably, and was able to eat today!
You gave VERY good instructions! I'm a geriatric counselor, and I often tell people to do exactly what you said! Especially when you come in through the ER, there can be contradictions in care that can be fatal. Any person who goes to the hospital needs to have an advocate nowdays, but especially those who are our elders!

Please continue to keep us in prayer. My mama was transferred to another unit last night, and she hasn't slept, her pressure is back up, and she has shortness of breath again. The cardiologist just left her, and he said he's cutting down on the meds. I could scream!!
So, I'm about to do a commando raid...

My mother was released today!! This was such a draining experience. When she entered the hospital, her potassium was low, so they pumped her full of potassium 3 times a day for 4 days - then wouldn't release her because her potassium was too high! Then, the opposite thing happened with her sodium. So, for the past three days, we were all ready to bring her home, she was dressed packed - and then, the let down. Ack!
So, now I'm praying for the best. I'm going to stay with her tonight, although she claims she doesn't need it, but it will be sheer heaven to know that she's okay, and I can return to my dogless existence!! Poor little Buffy has been moping because he just doesn't understand - but now he's one happy puppy!
Thank you, thank you for all of your prayers!!
