Bush's State of the Union Address

Did anyone watch it last night? I never do. I just wait to read it.

Here is the TEXT version of his address: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...wh/bush_text_1

What did you think of the address?
I just read it. He is asking for a lot of money. Some stuff sounds good (tax breaks to boost economy, Health care reform, etc.) but I am still skeptical.

You can go to this website and get the Democratic party POV.
http://www.democrats.org/2003sotu/index.html

This website also shows how his policies have effected individual states.

Bored? Want to read former State of the Union Addresses all the way back toTruman presidency?

Soror, as far as I'M concerned, Bush's speech only made me COMPLETELY certain that he's a COMPLETE REEETARD. And instead of SADDAM being the psychopath, HE clearly deserves that title. I have NO love for this MORON. He STILL has not given the citizens LEGITIMATE reasons for going to war with Iraq. I mean, he actually thinks that we (the American citizens) are soooo stupid that we can't see what his TRUE agenda is. By the time we get this man out of office, America is going to be so "MUCKED" up and we're going to have SO many MORE enemies that it's going to be a next to IMPOSSIBLE for the NEXT president to get us out of this mess. Of course he has people on his staff that are going to make his speeches SOUND good...that's what they are hired for. But let's be REAL, the MAJORITY of the people in America either don't WATCH or LISTEN to those speeches OR they don't UNDERSTAND what he's talking about in the first place whenever they DO listen or watch.

I guess that you've figured out that I'm definitely NOT a Bush fan. But it has NOTHING to do with my being a Democrat (because they're not doing much nowadays EITHER). It's just that Bush is full of it and I know that we (MINORITIES in particular) have a BETTER chance at getting issues and needs met with the Democratic party.

Bush's tax cuts will mainly benefit the RICH, not the middle or lower income families...WHAT'S UP WITH THIS? He's eager and QUICK to send troops over to other countries to fight, yet he (and his STUCK UP, GREEDY, RACIST, BUTT-KISSING cohorts) stays at home SAFE. Now will SOMEONE tell me, does that make sense? I believe that as COMMANDER AND CHIEF of the free-world, he should be amongst the FIRST to PHYSICALLY go out and serve if needed...BUT that's not the case, right?

But I think that Americans are FINALLY figuring out that this "war" with Iraq MESS is REALLY about MONEY, POWER, and the OIL FIELDS over there. Bush, as said before, is just a GOOD OLE' GOOFY BOY with a happy trigger finger and a WARPED mind.

REGARDLESS of the LIES and MISLEADING WORDS that he spoke in that "State of the Union Address", I'm feeling that MANY, YES, EVEN HONEST, WHITE, REPUBLICAN AMERICANS, are starting to SECOND (and THIRD) guess what they've done by putting this man in office. He's his father's (and certain Republican's) PUPPET. Heck, I FIRMLY believe that even HE doesn't know what he's doing. He's JUST that STUPID. Heck, I'm feeling that even CONNIE RICE is scratching her head at this point. Shoot, COLIN POWELL has even PUBLICALLY VERBALIZED his doubts and concerns. Heck, even the UNITED NATIONS won't back this NUT!!! Now WHAT does THAT tell us?

All I will say is...GOD, HAVE MERCY ON US!!!! At times like these, I'm HAPPY to say that I'm SAVED and FILLED WITH THE HOLY GHOST!!!!! And if anyone is NOT, then SOMEBODY had better get that man out of that position...AND QUICK...before he gets us ALL killed.

Korkscru, I couldn't have said it any better myself. I agree 100%. I'm not a Bush fan, never have been, never will be. He just reminds me of a used car salesman, they attempt to put on a great sales pitch, but when you break it down, they really ain't saying isht, only trying to sell a lemon.

I have to agree with you too korkscru. But unfortunately, a lot of people are falling for what Bush is saying. I knew when Bush first took office that he was planning on a war against Iraq. Troops were quietly being sent overseas when he first got into office, but a lot of people didn't know it unless they were able to get the inside scoop from someone in the military. He wants to take control of the oil, and he wants to get revenge for his "daddy", since Saddam tried to kill him when he was in office.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are not reading in between the lines, and realizing that he has not, and will not give us the REAL reasons he is declaring a war. His only concern is putting money in his pocket, and he will do that by any means necessary, which includes sacrificing our troops. By the time Bush leaves office, our allies will be our enemies. God help us.

I did not watch the state of the union address. I watched AI then I popped in my Simpsons DVD. I have a solution for this whole Iraq thing:

It seems to me that Bush is so hot to fight Iraq and that they really don't want to fight us, despite the noise that Saddam is talking. Bush is a retard, plain and simple. How silly are you to want to fight another country that isn't really bothering us and without any back-up from our allies? This just seems like a big nuts or a who can pee the furthest contest between Bush and Saddam. So my solution is this: LET THE TWO OF THEM FIGHT EACH OTHER!!! Just set the ring up at Caesar's Palace in Vegas, put it on Pay-Per-View or better yet on Fox where people can see it and the winner gets x amount of dollars and no more people will die b/c of Bush trying to impress his daddy!

Mandela: Bush Arrogant on Iraq

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (Jan. 30) - Former President Nelson Mandela called President Bush arrogant and shortsighted and implied that he was racist for ignoring the United Nations in his zeal to attack Iraq.

In a speech Thursday, Mandela urged the people of the United States to join massive protests against Bush. Mandela called on world leaders, especially those with vetoes in the U.N. Security Council, to oppose him.

''One power with a president who has no foresight and cannot think properly, is now wanting to plunge the world into a holocaust,'' Mandela told the International Women's Forum.

Mandela also criticized Iraq for not cooperating fully with the weapons inspectors and said South Africa would support any action against Iraq that was supported by the United Nations.

White House spokesman Ari Fleischer responded to Mandela's criticism by pointing to a letter by eight European leaders reiterating their support of Bush.

''The president expresses his gratitude to the many leaders of Europe who obviously feel differently'' than Mandela, Fleischer said. ''He understands there are going to be people who are more comfortable doing nothing about a growing menace that could turn into a holocaust.''

A Nobel Peace Prize winner, Mandela has repeatedly condemned U.S. behavior toward Iraq in recent months and demanded Bush respect the authority of the United Nations. His comments Thursday, though, were far more critical and his attack on Bush far more personal than in the past.

''Why is the United States behaving so arrogantly?'' he asked. ''All that (Bush) wants is Iraqi oil,'' he said.

He accused Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair of undermining the United Nations and U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who is from Ghana.

''Is it because the secretary-general of the United Nations is now a black man? They never did that when secretary-generals were white,'' he said.

Mandela said the United Nations was the main reason there has been no World War III and it should make the decisions on how to deal with Iraq.

He said that the United States, which callously dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, has no moral authority to police the world.

''If there is a country that has committed unspeakable atrocities in the world, it is the United States of America. They don't care for human beings,'' he said.

''Who are they now to pretend that they are the policemen of the world, the ones that should decide for the people of Iraq what should be done with their government and their leadership?'' he said.

He said Bush was ''trying to bring about carnage'' and appealed to the American people to vote him out of office and demonstrate against his policies.

He also condemned Blair for his strong support of the United States.

''He is the foreign minister of the United States. He is no longer prime minister of Britain,'' he said.

Arrow Bush's State of the Union Address Tonight

Bush to Set Re-Election Themes in Speech
18 minutes ago Add White House - AP to My Yahoo!

By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites), wrapping the themes of his re-election campaign in an upbeat State of the Union address, said Tuesday night that America enjoys a growing economy but is still at war and must not "falter and leave our work unfinished."

Slideshow: Bush to Give State of the Union Speech

After more than two years without a terrorist attack, he said it was tempting — but wrong — to think the danger had passed.

Bush said he was optimistic about the reviving economy and urged Congress to take steps to make sure the recovery lasts. "We must respond by helping more Americans gain the skills to find good jobs in our new economy," the president said.

Excerpts of his address were released in advance by the White House.

Bush's speech was designed to cast him as the commander in chief, grappling with the nation's problems and above politics, while Democratic rivals for his office race around the campaign trail trading charges.

The speech fell one day after the one-two finish of Sens. John Kerry (news - web sites) and John Edwards (news - web sites) in the Iowa caucuses threw the Democrats' race into a wide-open contest going into next week's New Hampshire primary.

"America this evening is a nation called to great responsibilities," the president said. "And we are rising to meet them. ... We have not come all this way — through tragedy and trial and war — only to falter and leave our work unfinished."

"Our greatest responsibility is the active defense of the American people," he said. "Twenty-eight months have passed since Sept. 11, 2001 — over two years without an attack on American soil — and it is tempting to believe that the danger is behind us. That hope is understandable, comforting and false."

Bush faced an electorate closely divided over the nation's direction. Americans are evenly split on his handling of domestic issues such as education, health care and energy, and just over half approve of his handling of the economy. His strong suit remains foreign policy, especially his handling of terrorism. Bush's job approval among voters in an AP-Ipsos poll early this month was 56 percent, a relatively strong position at this stage of a re-election campaign.

He said his administration was confronting nations that harbor and support terrorists and can supply them with nuclear, chemical or biological weapons. "Because of American leadership and resolve, the world is changing for the better," Bush said.

The president defended his decisions to go to war in Afghanistan (news - web sites) and Iraq (news - web sites). "The work of building a new Iraq is hard and it is right," he said. "And America has always been willing to do what it takes for what is right."

On the domestic front, Bush said America's economy was being transformed by technology that makes workers more productive but requires new skills. He called for new job-training grants channeled through community colleges.

Bush urged Congress to address the rising costs of health care with tax-free savings accounts for medical expenses, tax credits to pay for insurance and ceilings on medical malpractice damage awards.

Reaching back to his political speeches, Bush spoke of values important to many Americans — courage and compassion, reverence and integrity, respect for differences of faith and race. "The values we try to live by never change," he said.

The president was expected to repeat his belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman but stop short of seeking a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages.

"All of us — parents, schools, government — must work together to counter the negative influence of the culture and to send the right messages to our children," he said.

Reviving an old proposal, Bush was calling on Congress to overhaul Social Security (news - web sites) to allow workers to invest some of their payroll taxes in private retirement accounts. He also was renewing proposals to help Americans cope with the rising costs of health care and to make tax cuts enacted in 2001 and 2003 permanent. But budget deficits approaching $500 billion have made many in Congress wary about expensive proposals. While Democrats emphasized that the United States has lost 2.3 million jobs since Bush took office, the president was emphasizing the economy's growth.

He also was renewing his push to steer federal money to religious groups that provide social services.

Foreign policy was the opening theme of Bush's speech, and the president was expected to point to Libya's decision to renounce weapons of mass destruction and encourage other nations — North Korea (news - web sites) and Iran, in particular — to follow suit.

Last year's speech brought criticism over passages that asserted that Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) was "assembling the world's most dangerous weapons" and cited British intelligence alleging that Iraq had sought to buy significant quantities of uranium from Africa. The administration later acknowledged it had no proof about uranium purchases.

In nearly 10 months, nothing has been found in Iraq from a long and classified intelligence list of weapons of mass destruction.

On the domestic front, Bush was to propose measures to curb the rising costs of health care, administration officials said. The package, drawing on plans already announced, includes tax incentives to make high-deductible, low-premium policies more attractive; health savings accounts, which allow workers to place money into accounts tax-free and withdraw it with no tax penalty for medical expenses; limits on medical-malpractice awards, and permission for businesses to pool their resources to get workers coverage.
