What is with the tacky looking clothes today? I was at a department store just a few days ago, and the "young and trendy" lines all look, well, unwearable. Also, what's with wearing expensive sweat pants like Juicy? I'd rather take that money and spend it on a nice cashmere sweater a nice scarf. But then again, I'm a Banana Republic/J Crew kind of girl (LOOOOOVE the new Banana spring line)

Do you have a time machine that takes you back about 3 years to shop?

I don't like the trucker chique thing either.. But that's the high fashion world for ya.
It's a great way for clothing companies to make $ on cheap crappy clothes -- just tell people they're in style and they'll go buy them. Never fails.

It's just cyclical, kids. Things are cool because they're different.
Give it time and the Grace Kelly look will be back again, too.

I'm with you, definitely! The fabrics are cheap and itchy and you can tell they're not well-sewn. I personally believe that the simple, classy, feminine look never goes out of style. So many of the so-called "trends" look more like "trash" to me. I have a slim, knee length pencil skirt in the perfect shade of rose pink that I have worn for years - looks classy at work, pair it with a sexy tank top and I'll fit in at any club, etc. I feel much better in that than I would in one of those ugly little pleated miniskirts that every little girl in Gainesville has been wrapping around her butt lately (besides the fact that I am way too tall for that - it would be too much leg for most guys to handle )
Ann Taylor and Banana Republic are my home planets! You make a much better impression when you aim for classic rather than trendy, and I've noticed I get a better response from guys too. My friends started calling me Charlotte recently (from SATC) and that is just fine with me - most of the "Carrie" looks make me want to puke all over those Manolos - Charlotte always looks so pretty, not weird.

Juicy Couture is awesome and definitely not kiddie. I have a hoodie and pants set and it's made of 100% cashmere. So it's expensive, but totally worth it.
I also am into "classic" looks, but I like to mix in trends of today with it... So, I shop pretty much anywhere. I usually go to Shop bop to get my high end items.

I got a sweater for Christmas that looked really cute in the box, so of course I didn't even think twice about keeping it and ripping the tags off. When I went to wear it, though, I put it on and it was the weirdest thing I've ever seen...it has one of those wide necklines that reach out almost to the shoulders (like a modified jewel neckline, I guess), but I can't figure out if it's supposed to expose the shoulder or not. The sides stick up funny when I leave it where I think it belongs, but when I put it down over my shoulder a little the armpits are way down next to my ribcage. WTF? I think a lot of mass-produced fashions now are just badly cut and badly made, and this just convinces me even more.

Ooooh! Shop Bop has Petit Bateau shirts!
I've been sticking to basics from a few stores. Everything else is so cheap.

I agree. No matter how nice those expensive sweat pants may feel, the fact remains that when you look at yourself in the mirror, you are wearing SWEAT PANTS. Sweat pants are not cute. I could never bring myself to go out of the house in something that looks like work out clothing or pajamas, particularly something for which I paid a lot of money. I would rather have something nice that won't go out of style as quickly.
