As far as I can see, yes, there is a difference. It's sad that these terms are associated more with females, but you know how that goes. Anyway, my definitions:

1. Golddigger: Any individual who associates with/dates/engages in sexual behavior with another individual for monetary and financial gain. This individual will stick around as long as he/she is receiving cash, jewelry, cars, etc... but when the money runs out, chances are they will too.

2. Groupie: OOHHHH these are pitiful. Any individual who is a member of an unspoken fan club for another individual, commonly because of a change in status. For example: Person A just crossed into XYZ org. Chances are, they will encounter groupies who never gave them a 2nd glance before. Because of course, they are NOT the same person they were before - they are an XYZ! Or... Guy B turns out to be a surprise star quarterback, shocking the hell out of people who didn't give him the time of day before. Those same people can become groupies before you know it.

Just my take.

I agree with sweetestdiva. But I think that groupies are more commonly associated with women because women are definately more likely to be groupies as opposed to men (not that men can't be groupies).

Women groupies have more of an upper hand than men groupies in these kinds of situations in my opinon.

Question Groupies vs. Golddiggers (with a twist)

I saw this topic on a listserv...I thought I would add a TWIST to the question...

Is there a difference between groupies and golddiggers? (NOTE:You don't have to be in the entertainment/sports industries to have them.)

AND

Are groupies and golddiggers ONLY associated with WOMEN? Is it safe to classify MEN as groupies and/or golddiggers?

This is not to say that ALL WOMEN OR MEN ARE Groupies or Golddiggers.

Can I add a question? Do you think Fraternity Men (ie Alphas, Kappas, Ques, Sigmas and Iotas) have "Groupies" Are they in your school are they at Greek Events and what do you think of them.....and can Sororities have groupies to?

Just a question for my knowledge.

I can't speak for anyone else, but on my campus I mainly see these "groupies" in association with fraternity members and athletes (depending on ability, as sad as that sounds).

Oh, and as far as sorority members having groupies, I think it's different. From what I see, they seem to garner a lot of female groupies, i.e. interested women that may not have had any association with them previously. Excuse me in advance if I offended anyone, cause that's not my intent.

Ok, I have to come out and let it be known that I am a male groupie for the women of the WNBA, and Track Stars. Now before you laugh, some of them sisters are kinda sexy in an athletic, sweaty, rugged type of way.

Sheryl Swoops can get it any day of the week, however she wants it, where ever she wants, with me butt naked in a bowtie singing "I love me some her!"

Lisa Leslie can also get it. Well once I get a step ladder, but you know a brother will do what hes got to do.

MN

"I love me some 6 foot 9 inces her"

KnowledgeEternal, you hit the nail right on the head. That's exactly what I meant.
