Interesting Illustrations

"A BILLION!!!"

The next time you hear a politician use the word "billion" casually, think about whether you want that politician spending your tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into perspective in one of its releases:

A billion seconds ago, it was 1959.

A billion minutes ago, Jesus was alive.

A billion hours ago, our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate Washington (both Democrats & Republicans) spends it.

Another one:

The Democrats are complaining on how long the war is taking but consider this:

It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation.

It took less time to find Saddam's sons in Iraq than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Teddy Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sunk at Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!!!

I love seeing things put into perspective!

Ronald Reagan used this technique in most of his speeches.

Well I can't speak for other democrats but I think it is how long we will stay in Iraq, not how long it took us to win the "official" war. I still think we are at war since so many troops are getting killed. More troops have died after the "war" than during it.

So many? No not really.

And time? Well there is a handover not too far from now so if it's about that you can relax. It takes time to retrain the army and help create a governing board to unify a fragmented people.

And if we left as you'd like, I'm sure YOU would complain about how we didn't do enough after the war and screwed that up.

So you say I have no concern for the troops? I lived the military family life when I was a kid and have friends and family in the miliatary so I do care about the troops.

The reason you post to get out of Iraq is not out of concern for the troops in my opinion. I say that because I know you will post an opinion piece on how we abandoned Iraq and screwed them up as soon as we're out of there only to post anti-Republican rhetoric.

There is a national debt clock in NYC that ticks off how much money each family owes. A few years ago it was down to zero. In December it was about $75,000 per family and growing rapidly.

Many Democrats think that the US shouldn't leave Iraq until it is stabile.

Right now, like it or not, Howard Dean is the voice of the Democratic party.

It is true that many Dems disagree with his stance that we should have been out of there yesterday. However, he has succeeded thus far in marginalizing that group. You can only get so far in a campaign when constantly appealing to the extremists of any party.

My prediction is that if he wins the primary, he switches a lot of his currently held positions by the time the general election roles around.

it would be stupid and irresponsible to pull out all of our troops now. what we should do, and should have already done, is have the U.N. be in charge of the reconstruction of Iraq. If we want to retain control of the process just so we can put a pro-Western gov't. in place then we have less than noble intentions.

Actually they decided to be useless as usual and pulled out of Iraq entirely. We have been asking for their help in helping in the handover, but no progress yet. And it's pro-American because it's only America that matters - not the west.

I attended a lecture today about the the possible trial of Saddam Hussein. It was intersting. Maybe I'll recount the pertinent parts when I have some more time.

I hope you do!

My mama's cousin & his wife are in Macedonia, she's serving as a proscecutor on international crimes in Eastern Europe. She just signed on for another 2 years, and it's terribly interesting to hear what she's been doing. They're both attornies, but when Barbara had this opportunity, John retired to go with her.
