Thumbs down Anyone from Illinois?

I was on another website and it was mentioned that if a guy dates a girl/woman for a period of time and she has children (in the state of Illinois). If during this time, he has supported the woman financially (bills, children needs, etc). That if they break up, the guy can be sued for support, that is to continue to support the woman as done previous to the break-up. I AM NOT SPEAKING ABOUT MARRIAGE (or even common-law), JUST A REGULAR "RELATIONSHIP".

Can someone tell me if this is true or not, cause I don't even see this as being real!

Red face

I AM IN/FROM CHICAGO, AS WELL, AND I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT, EITHER. I ALSO WORK FOR THE IL. DEPT. OF HUMAN SERVICES, AND WHEN MOTHERS APPLY FOR ASSISTANCE FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR CHILDREN, WE REQUEST THE HUSBAND'S OR CHILDREN'S FATHER'S INFORMATION IN ORDER TO SEEK CHILD SUPPORT.

WE ALSO NEED DOCUMENTATION OF ALL HOUSEHOLD INCOME (INCLUDING LIVE IN BOYFRIEND) TO DETERMINE ELIGIBILITY FOR TANF(CASH) AND FOODSTAMPS. BUT BOYFRIEND PAYING CHILD SUPPORT (OR EX GIRLFRIEND SUPPORT), I DON'T THINK SO...

Not sure about the Illinois laws, but I know several celebs have been successfully sued for pallimony (sp?). It's like alimony but you don't have to be married to get it. Basically if the other party (cause it's not just limited to women!) handled 'spousal duties' for a period of time and was not able to earn a living then he/she may be eligible for some support. I don't think you have to have children to sue for pallimony. At least that is the way I remember it from Entertainment Tonight type shows!

Question

well, I know I don't know. I was too outdone when I saw that. I am going to have to go back to that forum and ask that person were they sure they knew what they were talking about.

Cause I cannot see an average Joe paying a woman money to support her and another Joe's child(ren) JUST because he wanted to "help her out".

I'm from Chicago, too. I've never heard of anything like that. I would think that would make the local newspapers or something.
