Exclamation Cincinnati Unrest

What are your thoughts on the riots happening in Cincinnati? Here's a link to the latest (as of 4/12/01): http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/2001...innati_dc.html

If you are so inclined, please pray that calm is restored (can there ever be peace in our communities with people being shot down like this???)and that justice is served.

Well, I hate that we tear up our own communities, that's for sure. I'm not saying they should riot, but it the words of Chris Rock, I'm just saying I understand. It's too bad, and it's unfortunate. But I'm more concerned with the cause than with the effect.

What are the alternatives to rioting? So much pent up energy and aggression and anger. How could they channel their energies differently? Unfortunately, I have no idea, but I would like to hear everyone's thoughts.

WenD08, how you hangin' down there, Soror?

I haven't had time to read about it. I wont assume the typical "racists cops kill innocent black man" story. I like to know as much about what happened as I can before I give my $.07. I do know this: they betta hurry and squash that shyt before people go to the guns.

This is exactly why we need good leadership!!!!

It seemed to me that some people are just rioting just for the fun of it. Why did they mention the "athletic" shoe store and not just a shoe store. Probably so that those that don't look like us can infer what they will.

this is compliments of my co-moderator AKAtude...

I read on the CNN website that the city of Cincinnati is under a state of emergency and a 8:00pm curfew is in effect. I have just one question: why do black folks destroy their own neighborhoods?!?!?! I mean, come on. I understand the frustration, but why tear down where you live. It doesn't make sense. There are better ways of dealing with the issues than resorting to vandalism, violence and looting. There are better ways of getting attention than acting afool. They need to turn all that negative disobedience into some productive actions.

My husband is from the 'Natti and we have both watched this on the news in horror. The young man that was killed recently was running away according to everything that I have read. How is that deamed a threat?

All of the family kinda lives out in the 'burbs like WenD08, but my MIL teaches near the area where a lot of the looting has been going on.
It is quite scary. Kind of reminds me of watching LA and the AUCenter go up in flames after Rodney King. Unfortunately this is the kind of thing that happens when folks feel like they have no options. I remember reading about another shooting when I was there in November (correct me if I am wrong, WenD) and folks did the "right thing" and had the regular protests, marches, forums, etc. I don't know how the government responded then, but however they did it seems as if it did not work. What do you do to 'get folks attention' in these situations? If you do the 'right thing' first, and folks do not respond accordingly, what options are left? Please don't misread me; I'm certainly not advocating violence in any form!!

Group think and the mob mentality is a mother (shutyomouth!) for real...

Eclipse, you are correct. the marches, positive protests, and boycotts haven't worked. what's sad is that people listen when you hit them in the pocket or hit them physically. Black- and white-owned downtown businesses are hurt, they could end up losing millions. corporate leaders are looking at those figures and are calling City Hall and the Cinti PD and will press for changes.

Eclipse, I see what you are saying. I just hate the fact that it had to come to this. The thing that also saddens me is that some people are participating just because the opportunity presents itself. Like WenD08 said, black (and white) businesses are the ones hurt after all is done.

It's late, I'm still working and I wanna chime in... What I am about to state will offend some people and at this point of my path toward divine enlightenment I think my words must be said...

Interestingly to note, that Rodney King got beat down 10 years ago...

Moreover, South Central Los Angeles Civil Unrest (The Looters in a Riot) was 9 years ago...

Because, "We Shall Overcome" marches are too frustrating and boycotts seem like they can't work, the most enraged, which are the most oppressed, feel that their only option of emotional outlet from their pain from not being heard is by resorting to violence...

Although this violence works in grabing the attention of those who have been the oppressors, the problem is this violence on is instant self gratification. One would think that thru all this destruction of what an oppressed mind must vent that one can rebuild from the ashes and move to higher place of understanding and communication... But apparently, this is not the case. Because some folks (--and if you understand the nature of white supremacy, then you understand their actions--) have not learned from our collective pain... And IMO, they don't wanna learn and they will never learn even if we decide to do Bin Laden, terrorist-tatic, nuclear holocaust explosions!

The only way to improve the Cincinatti situation was by careful, proactive and "strategic" planning for non violent civil unrest. And those that participated must have been prepared to be assassinated because of it...

How did Dr. MLK really stopped the stupidity of segregation? He questioned the moral fiber of the "officials" and asked how call themselves Christians. But since we know some of them are the Devil, then it may not matter pointing that out to them. But atleast you know what you are battling when you fight the Devil and it can be defeated, especially by love... YES, the results take too long, but it is long lasting. Because of MLK's love for his fellow man--which is the supreme Christian commandment--Afrikans in amerikkklan can sit any where if they chose to ride the bus...

But my point is to help those who are truly distressed by this situation. Most of you are professionals and you will be encountering the "stupidity" by some white supremacists that will ask your "take" on what caused the lack of communication that fostered this civil unrest. And guess what? You know you'll have to be the "spokesperson" for all the Black people that violently acted out in Cinncinati and you'll be made to justify your humanity as usual. And there will be some negroes that will state information that sold folks out and won't help.

Remember, you cannot argue against a white supremacist with his level of intelligence--he naturally feels it is superior to your "savage" mind. One way I have learned to combat this kind of racism is to question his morality--how does he think he could have come to this "moral decision"... That way, you often expose the devil for who he is, then you have a strategy for combat--combat of the divine will and mind... Also, never allow the devil to make you angry--- To whom the gods wish to destroy, they must first make him angry... So here are some suggested statements for you to use to combat the ignorance that you might encounter--

"When the young man was "crucified" by shot gun blasts from the cops, he was the 15th person whose blood was shed which called for the freedom fighters in this crusade for righteousness. It is just like Peter felt about Christ's betrayal when he cut off Judas' ear in the Garden of Gethsemane..."

"Okay, the cops don't racially profile, they 'criminally profile'. And really, all they are just doing is just their job!!! But that's just what Pilate said said when he had his Roman Soldiers wip and nail my Christ to the cross..."

"Hmmmm, the civil unrest is occuring the exact same time as the mob asked Pilate for my Christ's cruxificion... Today is truly a Good Friday!"

Everybody, you all take care and try to have a Happy Ressurection Sunday!

And for those you that are not Christian, here's your support:

"Because of Pharoah's inaction, the houses must be marked in blood so that the Angel of Death will Passover those who believe in the one true God..."

Really, here's the deal: When the god, Osun, the Yourban god of Fire, is called up his actions are immediate... That's why folks burn down their community...
