mother/daughters... bigs/ littles

does anyone else use "mothers and daughters" instead of bigs and littles? my sorority seems to be the only one who does this... and also when do you typically give out your bigs or moms? we do the beginning of the pledge period and when they get in- they get their baskets..... anyway- just curious- let me know

My chapter does Moms-Dots! I got my mom a couple of weeks into my pledge period. Quite fun.

Alpha Xi Delta at Indiana University used mom-daughter back in the 1990s.

Alpha Gamma Delta uses sister-mothers/sister-daughters. Though I don't speak for my entire sorority, I know that the correct term (according to my revamped IHQ website ) is sister-mother/daughter:

In addition, each new member is paired with a sister-mother—an initiated member who serves as a personal guide and friend throughout your daughter’s first months in Alpha Gamma Delta.

Our new members find out who their sister-mothers are right after New Member Service.

Well most SAI chapters that I know of use big/lil sis but I have heard of some chapters doing moms/daughters.

I personally like big/lil better.

We use big sis/lil sis in my Theta chapter, and we get them a few weeks after initiation...I guess we get them pretty late, but on bid day we get a guardian angel to help us out during the pledge period and until we get our big sis.

Funny story, the other day my mom told me to tell my "big sister" how much we enjoyed the cookies she gave me to take home, and for a second I was really confused, because I think of my "big sister" as my biological older sister, and my "big sis" as my sorority sister. I was like, um, why don't you tell her yourself, she's your daughter! And then I realized how much of a difference that one little syllable makes in my head

Hey sarah! Kinda off topic, but come over and post in the SAI forum sometime. It's soooo dead over there.
