Oklahoma is flat out better. USC being in the top 2 is a fluke.

Oklahoma is good, but they haven't really impress me all that much. USC was way better and the Trojans should had the number one spot locked up. I'm beginning to think that the people who are on the BCS committee must have gotten Drunk before they decided to make their choices for this week's ranking.

Don't Sign This Petition!
USC played an easy football schedule. They should not get the extra consideration that they are clamoring for.

Russell is exactly right!!!
The only reason there is such a controversy is the fact that the Human pollsters do not take into consideration the whole season. For some reason a loss in the beginning of the season is far more acceptable in college football than one at the end of the season.
USC lost to a 7-6 Cal team. OU lost to an 11-3 K-State team. LSU lost to an 8-4 Florida team. What does that say about the quality of the opponent who beat them.
The BCS is not wrong. It did what it is supposed to do and pick the two teams that over the course of the entire season were the best. There should be no extra penalty for losing late in the season. If you think that OU will beat USC than OU deserves to be ranked higher than USC (which is why K-state isn't higher than OU, b/c most people don't think that K-state normally beats OU)
There is no controversy. The two best teams are playing each other so quit your bitching

Somehow betarulz-- I doubt you'd be sitting by quietly if YOUR team was ranked #1 in AP and Coaches polls and NOT playing in the Sugar bowl.

My alma mater has a consistently top flight football program, unlike USC. I am being very objective, and speaking from experience. FSU has always shielded itself from criticism of its weak conference schedule by playing UF and Miami every single year. This year we also played Notre Dame, scheduled years before we knew that they would suck this year.
USC is in the PAC-10, which is pathetic as a football conference. And they do nothing to shore up the strength of their schedule. In my opinion, USC, like TCU, should be punished, not rewarded for having an inflated record.
When you play a joke schedule, like USC did, you better go undefeated. They did not, and USC has only itself to blame.

When was it declared that the winner of the Sugar Bowl (excuse me, the NOKIA Sugar Bowl ) is always the top team? I thought that changed from year to year.
Just another reason that they should have a damn playoff system in the NCAA.

Last year is last year and has no bearings on the present-- but consider this-
USC played a virtually identical schedule last year and had the TOUGHEST schedule in the nation. We did not know THIS YEAR that traditional powers/good teams like Notre Dame, BYU, Auburn, U Washington were not going to live up to expectations, NOR should we be punished for it, since we beat them and beat them the way a team superior to them should-- By 20+ points. If we squeaked out our wins in a conference that was suffering this year, your argument might have merit, but we blew everyone away and are just as good a team, if not better, than LSU and Oklahoma. The people who know such things think so, and I don't know why everyone can't just sit back and accept the fact that USC is a great team.
And for the record, we had a dry spell with some coaching difficulties in the 90s--that decade notwithstanding--we have one of the consistently strongest programs and traditions of any school.

1) Last year, is last year. But this year is this year, and USC played a joke schedule this year. Their record is therefore tainted.
2) USC schedules NO team consistently in the Top 10 outside of the PAC-10, and the PAC-10 rarely has teams consistently in the Top 10 at the end of a season. Now USC pays the price. Justice is served.
