Anniversary Gifts

Do you give your significant other the traditional gifts for anniversaries (ie paper for first year, etc)?

A coworker of mine is picking out a gift online for his wife and since you have to give a cotton gift for whatever year they are at, he's getting her a bath robe..something tells me she'll be less than thrilled...

Hmm if it was one of those really expensive bathrobes.... you know, that you want to steal from a hotel....

Hmm.. and if you're getting a bathtub, I'd assume it was a hint at the real gift... a brand new hottub!!!

i'd say go for the ultra luxurious 300 thread count egyptian sheets - those would be a nice gift for cotton.

the bathrobe is nice too - a gift certificate for a spa or hotel weekend would be an excellent addition

As long as the bathrobe isn't the only thing. Go with a week at a spa + bathrobe, a fancy hotroom iwth a jacuzzi and stuff, or something along those lines. There are ways to make a bathrobe so much more, and then every time after she puts it on she will think about that night in the hotel room....

I don't even know what the traditional anniversary gifts are (other than silver, gold, and diamond). My husband and I have always just gotten nice gifts for each other, without saying "OMG it's our sixth anniversary we MUST give each other candy and iron!"

I agree that a bathrobe isn't much of a gift, unless it's a very nice bathrobe accompanied by, oh, a day at the spa or a nice little vacation together.

Today is my anniversary and I got my husband golf clubs hes been wanting really bad. They were expensive so I saved up until now to get them. I truly have no idea what the years are. I think when we first got married I thought about doing that each year, but that went down the tube lol.

We usually just spend time together and do things for each other that are special. Every year isnt some elaborate gift. Its the thought that counts for me.

I got my first husband Genesis tickets for our first anniversary, and it did occur to me that they were paper. The best part is, I left him prior to the concert and took the tickets. Best concert I ever went to... on many levels.

It depends on the couple; I don't think there's any hard and fast rule, and by the same token, an anniversary gift doesn't need to be something overly expensive. Who says an anniversary has to break the bank? It seems like the same logic that says an engagement ring has to be over-the-top expensive.

My wife and I are celebrating our first anniversary at the end of the month. We're also in the process of buying a house, and I start law school in the fall. There will be no expensive gifts exchanged.
