what would you do...

ok, here is the situation....

i, not too long ago started working at a new job. i've met some other co-workers that seem pretty cool, except this one guy.

when i first moved into my cubicle, up went pictures of DELTA and my sorors. the guy, let's call him JJ. JJ makes a comment about crimson and cream and so on. i ask him what does he know about Delta and he says plenty. he tells me he is an Alpha.

so i am thinking greek love and it's all good. but then i start getting suspicious cause i start asking him the name of his chapter. he tells me grand chapter in some lil town in new jersey. he doesn't name the chapter. he says he pledged in '92 but the line was underground. he doesn't associate with any of his bruhs at all. he doesn't go to any events. he doesn't even know about them.

i was like okeyyyyy.

what perplexed me even more is, i was talking to a friend at work and she told me went to a wedding were one of my sorors married an Alpha and how at the reception. All of my sorors sung a beautiful song in a circle to the bride, which is our 'sweet heart song'
and then all the frat of the groom circled around him and sang there fraternity song to him.

JJ was in the conversation and i asked him how many weddings has he been in to sing with his frat. the look on this face was so confused and he said sing what. the Alpha don't sing at their weddings.

i was like what school did you go to again. he is so much of a perb that i wanted to bust him myself.

so i guess the question is....why do you do? or what would you do.

i almost want to tell my cousin and all my Alpha friends (i live acrosst the street from the Apha house in nyc) to challenge him.

i guess the reason why this is upsetting me because i can't not stand people that PERP for any Sorority or Fraternity

Clearly this person's membership in Alpha is in question. I would tell him out right that I don't believe he is a member. In addition, I would tell him that I know that it is of great disrespect to any organization for non members to not be honest about their association. If the guy is really a member he can show a pass card or something.

I say stop having the conversation with him and play him for the fool that he is.

I'd probably just let him know you know the deal and to quit trippin.....

...or the next time someone you know to be an Alpha comes in take him over to dude and say "hey, JJ. Here's your Alpha bruh". Then run real quick, get you some popcorn, a pop, and a good seat 'cause you might be gettin' ready to get a good show

CT4, I know, I know; I'm crazy but I think we need a clinical definition for "perpology." Why would someone, particularly as they move away from the collegiate experience, be so caught up in perpetrating? Just go 'head and be good in something else.

...but hey, don't play me like I'm the only one who'd enjoy the show. I've seen old threads on how yall (read: YOU) bust out some of the perps foolish enough to come up in here wit dat.

Similar Situation

I'm going through something like that. About a week ago, a guy approaches me in my cube at 7:30 in the morning to introduce himself. There aren't too many of "us" on my floor, so I'm pleasantly surprised, and I figured he must be new. Well, turns out, he saw my Zeta picture hanging up, and my other picture with me wearing my Zeta stole and he decided to introduce himself. Now, I'm hardly awake when I get to work in the morning, but if he's telling me that he saw my Zeta things, automatically, I'm thinking, is a Sigma? Is he greek? He didn't volunteer any info, and I didn't ask.

So, the next day, I am in the cafeteria ordering my lunch. In walks the new guy. We say hi, and I see that he's going to order from the same station I am at. So, I asked him if he was a Sigma. I already knew the answer because if he was, I'm pretty certain he would have introduced himself. He was like, Oh heck no! I was like, well dang! Are you greek? He said yes. So I asked him what org. First, he said that's not important. I was like, well ok. Then I asked him where he went to undergrad. Dude was like, not here! I told him he's really secretive! Then he said a school in upstate New York. Oswego I think. Then, I asked him again what org he was in. He hesitatied, then he said, I am a Que. I was like, was that so hard to say? I mean, dang, there's a Delta on the 3rd floor in my building that I could have pointed out to him, but he was acting kinda shady about revealing what he was, so I'm not too sure about him. He's a nice guy though. lol

Angry

Here's the thing I don't understand.........If you're trying to perp, why go around being unprepared w/ good responses. Also, why do it at your job?????? The more time you spend with someone the more likely they'll realize the real deal. If you just wear letters you didn't earn to the grocery store, the consequences probably won't be as bad.

I'm like WTF? Why don't these guys just go back to high school too and replay the last 10 seconds of the "big game" again so you can win this time??

Either pledge on the yard, or, if circumstances permit, try to pledge (errh, intake) now with the alumni chapter, but why lie about something that any legitimate frat/sorority member is going to see in 2 seconds?? das jus stooooopid. I'm seriously wonderin' if these folks run in their closets, and close the door so they can yell out the frat/sorority call??

Ummmmm, errrrrrr, I THINK you answered your own question. I think they go back to their rooms to practice the strolls, struts, steps, etc from the Greekshows, etc.

Sad, but true.
