Sports Fraternity
Are there Sports Fraternities? I think there are. Can anyone name some of them?
At my school, a local gymnastics fraternity has been founded, we will see where that goes?

Perhaps the lack of response indicates a lack of interest/knowledge?

Never heard of them. But then, it seems sometimes sports teams in general can be a bit like a fraternity, not with having letters or ritual or anything, but with all team members spending a lot of time together and sharing a common bond and such. Then, what would be the point of having such a fraternity, a sports one?
Then again, one of my friends got hazed when she joined the rugby team...that's the kind of stuff we don't want to be associated with fraternities/sororities.
Edited for horrid grammar mistakes. Whoops.

Perhaps there are honor societies for exercise science and the recreational arts.
Purely guessing here.

For some reason, that made me crack up. "Recreational Arts" makes me think of a bunch of stoners sitting around smoking up Maybe my mind's just there because I watched Dazed and Confused the other day....

What happens fairly often is that members of a certain team will also pledge the same fraternity.
At Stanford -- at least a few years ago -- a lot of the football players were Delts, including John Elway.
I'm not aware of any specific sports fraternities, though.

What about "Club Sports" such as ultimate and rugby. Most of them function as fraternity without ritual, etc. I know I "pledge" the rugby team.

Teams and fraternities
I also saw the pattern of football players, in particular, choosing one certain NPHC or NIC fraternity when I was in UG (the University of Southern California, current #2 in the polls. )

A lot of sports teams function as fraternities as far as the living together aspect.
You can't have a social fraternity based on a sport because it would be discriminatory. An honor society for phys ed/sports med majors, that's different.

33girl, good post!
I know at some schools, they flat tell their Atheletes, you will not join a Greek Org. This is the only game in town and you will be a member of it!
I notified Our Greek Advisor who was Initiated and whose Son is a Brother about it!
He looked at me and said are you kidding/
Nope was my basic reply! He is also The Chair of a Department at the U!
While the mind set of the jock strap crew is tunneled vision, I think one only needs to go back in each Organizations History to fine Athletes, Poloticians, Judges, War Heros, Actors, Major CEOS or anyother type of Job relationships!
