Bid Day Ideas?

Does anyone have any fun ideas for bid day? I am in charge of putting something together and I want to do something fun for the girls where they can really get to know both eachother and the sisters. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Ooo! I was VPE and planned a bid day- we did a luau, and it was so much fun- one of the best bid days, from what I've heard! I have a great game for you to get everyone involved!

We took all our girls (about 70) into the parking lot of our house (but any big area would work) to play this.

*Now, I'm not a big fan of running, so we make sure it's pretty tame so no one gets hurt or anything. I'm sure it could be as rowdy or tame as you wanted!*

So, one girl starts and says something like "I drive a white car" or, have brown hair, or, am an only child, or whatever, as long as it's a true fact about yourself. Everyone that fits that category tries to run to that girl- whoever gets there first holds her hand and gives another statement about themselves, and it keeps going until everyone is linked together. Generic facts are good to use, because it's easier- also, if no one fits what someone says, then they try another fact. I had to give our girls a little friendly speech to keep it appropriate (you don't wanna freak out the new members!), but I guess that depends on the crowd.

When everyone is holding hands, whoever started the game gives a little speech about how everyone has stuff in common through Theta, blah blah blah... you know the deal. It's a really great game, just make sure the actives really get the new members involved! Maybe give a fact about yourself that you can relate to someone you talked to during recruitment!

I hope I explained it well- PM me if you have questions!

That sounds so cool Andrea! We didnt do anythign like that and havent to my knowledge since I've been in the chapter. Basically our bid days involves picture taking, runnign towards the new members with their new "Theta" shirts like mad women when we see them coming down the hill to meet their new sisters at the ravine, and then we go to the Theta floor for bid day goodies from their Pansy Pals, and pizza. Also the VPE will talk to them and get necessary info etc. then everyone goes back to the Ravine for candlelight ceremony. It was exciting for me as a new member at the time so I didnt think much of it, but after reading your post, I wish we had done something along those lines.

We did however play a game similar to that at the pledge/chapter retreat though and that was fun, and we do a similar more formal thing sorta like that during our preference as well.

I think as a new member, you are pretty much excited about anything- especially if you get the house that you wanted. I remember being so excited on my bid day (and a little nervous!) and hardly remember what we did (picnic in the park, and lots of pics is about all I can remember). Getting a bid day shirt was the best part of it all.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that no matter what you actually do, they will probably be excited- just make sure to make them feel comfortable!!

That's true. I was/am so excited to be in Theta (my top choice throughout rush) that I really dont think it wouldve mattered what was done. In fact, my excitement stayed with me for quite awhile........I didnt sleep a week after bid day because i was so excited. Litterally I think woke up and went to sleep with a cheesy grin on my face hehe
