Either on a frozen lake, or an outdoor hockey rink.

Outside hockey is the best!!!

I used to play outside and it was great. There's nothing like an 8am game outside in below 0 temperatures (that's celsius) to wake you up. People who only play indoors don't know what they're missing.

Besides it's not just a Canadian thing. Last year (or was the year before) U of Michigan vs. Michigan state had an outside game.

eta: I agree. A proper games of shinny must be played on a frozen pond.

Shinny night in Canada was great - I love those triple headers. I hope this is something they do every year, or at least cycle through the 6 canadian teams.

A game of shinny would go over so well in Vancouver, but you wouldn't have the same temperature atmosphere ...

The paper yesterday was comparing the whole thing to "Field of Dreams". To watch Gretz, Messier, Fhur, Kuri et al. play one more time, it was great!

I think the coolest thing was that despite the -20 something plus windchill temperature, hardly any people left after the legends game, and some guy still went streaking.

The players hated it and the quality of the game wasn't great. Awesome for the fans, if the ice was a little better it would have been solid.

The old timers appeared to be enjoying themselves, and were all smiling...
