My friend Scott takes a kickboxing class and he loves it. everynow and then he'll complain about the occassional bruises, but he loves his tournaments that he's in that deals with that class.

As for myself, the closest I've come to it is tae-Bo, and it does kick your ass. I love tae-bo a lot, though I dont make it my only form of exercise.

I used to do aerobic kickboxing. It's like taebo in that there's no contact with other people. We did floor and bag work.

When I was trying to decide where to take classes I checked out a bunch of traditional kickboxing classes too. I definitely suggest taking the free introductory classes at as many places you can to get a feel for what/where you like.

My most important suggestion though is to listen carefully to the instructors and do your best to do what they say. Especially when it comes to pivoting on the ball of your foot. My knee has never forgiven me for not listening to that advice. Very painful.

aerobic kickboxing is what i am doing. there is no way in hell i would do traditional kickboxing, although the thought of kicking the crap out of someone sounds really nice.
