Job in HR?

I have been looking at a position posted for an assistant in the HR department. I have 3 years office experience in a wide range of things from accounting to underwriting insurance policies. I would like to get my foot in the door in an HR department. What can I do to make myself more attractive on my resume and in an interview. The job post says experience in HR is preferable but not a must.

I'm just seeing this so I hope it is not too late. Answer really depends on what area of HR you are most interested in. Recruiting/Organizational Development/Employee Relations usually look for outgoing people oriented people. There has to be a good balance though, because confidentiality is of the HIGHEST importance.

Benefits/Payroll/Compensation types are usually very logical, analytical and organized. Confidentiality is also very important here as well.

Make sure you haev relevant examples of your past work to share with the interviewer. Good luck!

I have not finished my degree. I am about 30 hours short of a degree in HR. I am 25 and am wanting to get my foot in the door and be an assistant so that when I do get my degree I will have had some experience in HR.
According to what color is your parachute, I should contact the hiring person directly and ask if they have a position open. The problem is, do I tell them that will have a degree (It will take me about 2 years) or do I tell them that I am looking into being in an HR department but I have no experience. I don't know how to approach such a topic.
