Offices
Most chapters have presidents, assistant VP's, Recruitment Chair etc.
What are some of the other offices your chapter has (both large and small)? It seems like if all chapter members have some sort of responsibility (even if fairly minor), it would make them more involved. Just curious!

With Sigma Nu (or at least the way my chapter handles it), a chapter is run sort of like a corporation. Due to the VMI roots of the Fraternity, all officer names are military in origin.
Commander = CEO
Lieutenant Commander = COO
Treasurer = CFO
Recorder = Secretary, in charge of record keeping and communication
Marshal = In charge of new member education
Recruitment Chair
Chaplain
Below this you have your people like social chair, etc. One notable difference in my chapter, we have a "Charm" Chair who's job it is to ensure that everyone practices good ettiquette in public. Other than that, we have about the same chairs as any other fraternity.

Our hierarchy is set up much like the national government. Each VP has a Chair under him, and each Chair has a committee under him.
President
Executive VP
- HIT Squad Leader (Risk Management at Fraternity Functions)
- Brother Library (Organize and Cataloge books/notes/tests)
VP Membership
- Rush Chair (Recruitment)
- Educator (New Member)
VP Finance
- Fund Raising Chair (Plan and co-ordinate fundraisers)
VP Programs
- Social Chair (Mixers, Alumni/Parent Functions)
- Sports Chair (Registration for Intramurals and Team Captain)
- Philanthropy Chair
Secretary (meeting minutes, current contact list)
Sargent at Arms (Controls access to meeting, and presents
initiates at ritual)
Our Chaapter House is seperate from Fraternity Operations in every respect, although we technically fall directly under the president.

And yes I agree with AXO_MOM_3. I hold no office in my sorority, but in every other organization I am involved with I hold an office so I have to miss a lot of sorority functions due to other organization conflicts, but if I held an office in the sorority I would be more involved. Unfortunately I only have like a year or year and a half of school left but I hope to be a leader in whatever alum chapter I join.

Though I am beginning to feel too much falls under minor board (I used to do it and it was a lot of work!!). I am debating if we should consider adding more VP's (which I am doubting cuz we're only a 20 person chapter) or put some of the Minor Bd. positions under the authority of other E-Board officers. Any suggestions?

AEPhiSierra,
I feel you on lack of people. My chapter has been operating with 17 active brothers since graduation last spring. (We're initiating 10 this weekend)
We found that making too many chairs is a good way to make everyone unavailable to help each other. By having the Exec VP's take direct control over the areas that dont have much activity going on regularly, and just having them assign temporary committees as needed, works best. This system is a lot more informal, and it gives everyone a chance to fill a spot as their schedules permit.
As what was said in another post about having no time for a lot of chapter roles, we feel that here too. We require every brother to serve in at least one other campus organization (Non-Greek). I'm a second year Army ROTC cadet, and the Corps takes a lot of my time, but with our system, I am able to farm-out my work to others as necessary, and take on things I have time for.
For example, I am not under our VP of Programs, but I had time to plan our Fall Semester Parent's Dinner (and he needed the help), so I took that on top of my Rush and Fundraiser responsibilities.
Our system is a lot more streamlined than others I have seen posted here. I'm not sure if it is necessarily better, but it definately works well for us.
(It also lets everyone with Exec Board aspirations to do work under all the VP's to find out which postiion they would want to run for)

I would assume a member who is the point of contact for the chapter in licensing the use of the fraternity or sorority's trade marks (letters, coat of arms, slogans, etc.)
Generally, the national office handles trademark licensing issues, but the licensing chair probably reviews designs for party shirts, bid day stuff and other items to comply with the national's design guidelines.
