I think we had a thread like this a while back, but I will begin by saying there's nothing that can compare to the day I emerged from the earth no longer an Ivy but a woman of 20 pearls! That memory is partly what gets my eyes misty every time I sing our hymn.

Also, having sorors serenade me at my wedding was priceless. Seeing the faces of sorors who made me, those whom I helped make, and even the neophyte daughter of one of my mentor sorors, whom I had watched grow up--was truly special.

My most special AKA memory is standing on a balcony at my first Founder's Day luncheon and looking out over a sea of beautiful black women, from 18 to 90, all dressed in white. It was at that moment that it fully hit me that I was truly a part of a sisterhood- something so much bigger than just being a member of my chapter.

Also, I grew up admiring my six aunts, who, to me, were always the epitome of style, class and grace- even before I understood what Alpha Kappa Alpha was (or that it was their common bond). Being embraced and called "soror" by them for the first time was a thrilling event that I will cherish always.

I have had so many special AKA memories. Let's see can I stop at just three: when I first uttered the word Soror to a Soror with a hug, when I receieved my badge, and when a Soror I never met from another state sent me a beautiful AKA blanket.....STOP! I am getting kind of misty eyed.

Nothing can compare to the moment you realize that you are a true part of this sisterhood.

Memories I cherish are pinning my cousin, going to my first regional and visiting the international headquarters in Chicago during Boule.

I am not going to respond.

There was a similar thread back in the day. I know more Sorors responded. Go back and you will be able to find responses there.

I will give "newer" Sorors (to the Sorority and Greekchat) the opportunity to respond, if they so choose.

When I had waited so long for something that I was destined to have. I knew it was real when I heard the words, "Welcome my Soror". I was holding up pretty well until that point. I had to adjust to the fact that I could now throw my pinkie in the air.

I've had a lot of good memories in my short time as a member. Attending my first area retreat, being elected to an office, and the sisterhood we share. However the most exciting moment thus far (hey I'm not gonna lie) was picking my oh so pretty personalized jacket up the other day!! I'ts good to finally be able to wear that jacket, because I truly KNOW that AKA is so much bigger than a jacket.
