PLATTSBURGH -- The Mountain Lake PBS studio will host a news conference Thursday to discuss the goals of an upcoming documentary involving some of the college students charged in the hazing death of a Gansevoort man.
Mountain Lake PBS Media Lab, in partnership with the John Collins Center of Plattsburgh Housing Authority, is producing a documentary about the dangers of alcohol abuse and hazing.
As part of a plea deal, some of the 11 SUNY Plattsburgh students charged in connection with the death of Walter Dean Jennings, a 2002 graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, must participate in the video. All the students were required to contribute money toward the cost of production.
Speakers will include Richard Cantwell, Clinton County district attorney; Alice Recore, president and CEO of Mountain Lake PBS; Michael Glumicich, director of the Media Lab; Ted Kowalczyk, executive director of the Plattsburgh Housing Authority; and John Drollette, a sergeant with the Plattsburgh Police Department.
The purpose is to inform the public about the initiative and clarify the goals of the documentary.
Jennings, 18, a freshman at SUNY Plattsburgh, died March 12 while pledging Psi Epsilon Chi, an unrecognized fraternity at the college.
