LSU starts to crack down on greeks
Here is a link to an article about some recent happenings at LSU.
http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/...azing001.shtml
I hope that these issues can be worked out for all the orgs. I hate to hear of anyone in trouble with the university.

I've heard of some things going on amongst the BGLOs at LSU. It's utterly ridiculous.

Hmm. I'll have to ask my cousins about it during Thanksgiving-conversation turned to Greek life last year, so it probably will this year...and they're both at LSU.

Is this Lamdba Chi as in LXA? The article was a little unclear on that.

Pretty sure it is LXA.
According to the article on the link, about half of LSU's fraternities are on suspension or probation.
Doesn't sound like a Greek Friendly aministration, does it?

I don't think it's the administration so much as the Greek culture there. At many schools, it's not out of the ordinary for half (or more) of the fraternities to be swamped in risk management violations. The only difference is that LSU seems to be legitimately cracking down on them instead of letting things slide as most administrations do, which will obviously help the Greek system get healthier in the long run.

The administration is actually extremely pro Greek. Each staff member in the Greek Affairs office is a GLO member. As sugar and spice observed, the administration is simply trying to crack down and make the Greek system at LSU better, therefore improving the overall image so that non-GLO's can finally see what we are really about.

DeltaAlum called me at my shop just befor I left the store to ask about seeing this. Thanks Tom!
justamoms son Associated with the Upsilon Chapter at LSU this fall.
I was very pleased to say the least, but now, I am very embarresed!
It sounds like that if the School is Pro Greek, then the problem lies with the Greek Organizations in the wake of so many Chapters being placed on probation.
If this action is true, then it is totally uncalled for, PERIOD!
justamom, my apologies to you for this happening.

Thanks. That's good to know. I strongly endorse that kind of situation -- it ends up being better for all of us in the end.
I just hate it when an administration takes a hard line because of anit-Greek feelings.

I know that this is going to sound funny, but I wish that my school would crack down. I cannot tell you how many times I have had to answer questions about hazing and how bad it gets on at this school sometimes. It really hurts the Greeks on this campus and the school does nothing, becuase it could care less. Until something heavy happens, which it is going to, then all greeks are going to get it at SF State.

Pi Kap, cant or wont the Greek Governing Boards do anything about what I am perceiving as detrimental?
If they wont and as you said, there is going to be a major situation there sometime soon!
Then, all Hell will break loose and each and everyone will pay for it!

My sentiments exactly, justamom. Please know that this is NOT what LXA should be or is about at all.
Isn't LSU where the hazing death at SAE occurred a few years back?

It's distressing to see this happening in a chapter that was recently so highly recognized at LSU. I hope the chapter can realign itself with the fraternity's core values and eliminate the hazing.
With nine fraternity chapters at LSU on varying kinds of probation, it does appear that -- as JustaMom and others have posted -- there's something substantially twisted in the campus's fraternity culture.
Sugar and spice's point -- that on many campuses lots of fraternities are "swamped" with risk management problems -- is well taken, though it doesn't bode well for Greek life in general. Hope LSU can lead in raising awareness and improving the situation.
On a completely cynical note, for those of us who believe that "Dilbert" is dead-on accurate about organizational life . . . maybe most of the members who had new members do their homework (as the Associated Press story reports) plan to go into management, where ordering others to do your work is SOP for those too dumb or too lazy to do it themselves.

don't slam LXA
Hey- I didn't want to slam on Lamba Chi. They are a great group of guys. I dated one in my college days. Honestly, I thought the comment that 9 chapters are currently on probation was interesting.
LSU greeks have always had issues on and off. Cheap booze and 18 year olds is always a volitle mixture!
It will be interesting how LSU's party culture is going to be contained. I'm just glad I got to enjoy it during the early 80's when it was in it's rowdy glory!
