Artificial Insemination & Sperm Banks

Ladies: Would you ever consider artificial insemination? Would you tell your child how he or she really came to be?

Gentlemen: Would you ever make a "deposit" at a sperm bank? Would anonymity be a concern for you? How would you respond if a child of yours contacted you 10 or 20 years down the line looking for a relationship?

Nope, I wouldn't do it. It's funny, cuz I just watched that episode of Golden Girls the other week, lol. But I would be totally and completely uncomfortable with that. And I know I wouldn't be able to bring myself to tell my child who their father was. I also would like to know the father personally (*snickering*) in case my child ever needs a kidney or a blood transfusion or something like that.

Well....

I was just talking about that with my friend the other day. She said that she would be into artificial insemination if she wasnt married or seeing someone by the age of 30. I asked her whether she would tell her child(ren) when (s)he asked about their father and she said that she would not mind telling them the truth.

I, on the other hand, would want the closeness and intimacy that comes along with creating a baby. I want a husband and a strong family ties that comes along with, or should come along with having children. I want my child to be able to have a relationship and talk with and DEPEND on their father, which is something that I never had.

I MIGHT make an anonymous donation if I felt there were a significant need for African American donors, HOWEVER, because of my own issues with an absent father, I don't think I could go through with it. If I am giving some lucky kid half of my DNA, I want to be part of their life.

What if your friend reaches and passes 30? Will she feel the same way?

Why does your friend feel that 30 years of age is her biological clock time limit?

Should there be a biological clock time limit given IVF and SIF technology?
