Question When Will They Learn?

Why do people try to hide the truth or cover things up? Don't they know the truth will come out sooner or later? I guess they are hoping it will be later or not at all. Take note: Bill Clinton and "Zippergate"!

I'm referring to the recent withdrawl of Linda Chavez as the nominee for Secretary of Labor. She knew she would be investigated and placed under a microscope. Everyone knows the media will leave no rock unturned these days.

Sometimes the things that are uncovered are irrelevant. I think it may keep a lot of good people out of politics, aspiring for a higher office, or destroy reputations.

In this particular situation, she finally admitted to trying to cover up her role in assisting illegal immigrants. She admitted that she was not forthcoming and completely honest with the Bush transition team.

Then, at a press conference she paraded around all these people she helped. I don't fault her for helping folks when they are down, but she still broke the law. Or, I guess they think it's ok if they break the law as long as it's a good deed.

Haven't you all noticed that when a new administration takes over and they nominate people for their cabinet or soforth, if there's some sort of scandal involving the nominee they get dropped like a bad habit.

Ms. Chavez did not disclose her involvement with the illegal immigrants to the Bush team, why? I think she really was hiring these illegal immigrants because just like in sweatshops, the labor is cheaper. Didn't she realize that she would be the subject to numerous investigation once she accepted the nomination. I mean they have to disclose their financial records. Also, the FBI does and extensive background check on them. I truly think she had a lot to hid. And the news has reported that she was one of the people who was against picking Zoe Bayer for a key cabinet position because she too hired an illegal alien. If she truly did nothing wrong, or as she said did everything out of compassion. Then my question is, why give up? I wouldn't. If I know I was right, I wouldn't care what others are saying or speculate. And the the final thing that really did it for me was when she said yesterday in a news conference that she wasn't really that interested in being Secretary of Labor. Man please! That's bull. Why accept the nomination if you're not really interested in the job. Didn't she know what the nomination process was gonna be like? She just has much more to hide. Lastly, ASHCROFT CANNOT BE CONFIRMED AS THE NEW ATTORNEY GENERAL! And the bottom line, cause N4L said so!

Does anyone remember Nannygate? I barely remember it myself but it had something to do with a Clinton cabinet nominee who had some dealings with a nanny who was an illegal immigrant.
A news program brought this up a couple of days ago when this story first broke. I think that cabinet nominee wasn't paying taxes.

The issue here is that as Sec of Labor, she would be charged with upholding the laws and policies that she blatantly disobeyed by hiring the illegal immigrant. This 'skeleton' has a direct bearing on her job whereas I beleive that the Clinton nominee did not (if I recall correctly).

**And you know Jay Leno let her have it with both barrels!**

This is also the reason why Ashcroft should not be Attorney General (and also because N4L said so!)

What I find interesting is that everyone is crying foul like this sort of thing does not happen all the time. Like it is some scheme by the democrats to compromise Bush's presidency from the start. Like investigative reporting was just invented last week. This happens all the time, again I would reference the Lewinsky incident.
I have to agree wih N4L, Ashcroft has got to go as well. Now that we have both said it, it must be so.

Does anyone remember Nannygate? I barely remember it myself but it had something to do with a Clinton cabinet nominee who had some dealings with a nanny who was an illegal immigrant. The Republicans went after her with vigor. This is just a simple case of "you reap what you sow". When the Republicans attack a Democratic cabinet nominee, it's for the good of the country. When the action is turned around on them, they cry bloody murder. Living in DC does not make watching it all over the news any better. Maybe she did have good intentions. But the fact remains that she did have this woman working for her. It's all about revenge. The Democrats will be searching for things to attack every one of Bush's nominees. He already has a gay bashing, anti-abortion throw back from 1950 for attorney general. Roe v. Wade and Affirmative action, look out. It's going to be a bumpy ride for the next four years. Maybe then we'll come to our senses and elect an intellectual instead of appointing an idiot.

I needed to vent! :

some of these candidates think that they can get over, they don't think they'll get caught why they think that i don't know. it would seem that the president as "bright" as he is would have checked out his own people before making an idiot of himself and wasting our time with their nomination. whateva i was sick of politics when i lived in dc and i'm sick of it now. but it does sometimes make for good entertainment.
