Why I am SO Proud to be an AlphaGam
Hey all!
I'd LOVE to hear specifics on why YOU absolutely pride yourself in being an AlphaGam.
I LOVE being an AlphaGam coz we're the girls who've got the HEART to make things happen AND, we've got the most Vibrant & Sparkling personalities out of ALL the chapters on campus. (THAT is why we're going to do AWESOME this year with recruitment!) But seeing the awesome girls we have coming back through parties, the girls who go Gam are the girls with substance, and we are going SO far in life!!! haha and of course we're cute too. AlphaBetas are the ideal 'Girl Next Door' house on campus and EVERYONE loves the 'girls next door'
WHOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Going to Emily H. Butterfield's medallion dedication ceremony renewed my pride in Alpha Gamma Delta (yet again).
From recently initiated women of Zeta Alpha and Alpha Upsilon to the amazing number of Volunteer Services Team members that we have in this state to the woman who knew Emily personally and who has attended every Convention since the 1950's, to current and former officers of International (or Grand) Council, it was great to see the largest turnout for a Founder medallion dedication right here in Michigan! There were even several real squirrels in attendance!!
Hearing the long list of Emily's accomplishments and contributions, not just to the Fraternity, but to society as a whole, made me proud to be an Alpha Gam and humbled to think that we are following in the footsteps of such an amazing woman.

I am so proud to be an Alpha Gamma Delta, because when I look around at the girls in my chapter and the many girls I have gotten to know from other chapters I see something that when growing up I didn't see much of, unconditional love for each other. To be able to talk to girls you have never met, to try to cheer them up, to be there for each other because you are sisters, means so much. Its one thing to call someone a sister, but when I look around we treat each other like sisters and that is something else. Plus when I see all my sisters coming up with different ways to help the community we live in, it makes me so proud because it shows how much we care about other people and that we enjoy helping others out. Here's what a sister means to me:
Sister is not just another word to me, it means being a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen and a heart to care. Its being able to laugh with each other, fight with each other and at the end of the day still be there for each other. The love of a sister knows no bounds and she is there to share with you all of the trials and joys of life. No matter what time of day it may be, she is there. I love every single one of you whom I am privileged to call sisters.
And I can say that everyone of my sisters has been there for me in my time of need, and I will always try to do the same for all of you. Without my sisters in Alpha Gamma Delta I don't think I would of survived my first year of college, and I'm sure they will help me get through however many more years I am here for. This is why I am so proud to be an Alpha Gam. I don't think there is a better feeling on earth then to be able to call so many wonderful women sisters.

When I went down to help with recruitment it was like homeeven though I hadn't been there in ages and didn't know all the girls- by the end of two days- they were all higging me and telling me they loved me and all. That is what I love- the bond. Knowing that even though my sisters are all over the place in this great world, we have a bond that connects us.
And all the little things- like the way all the AGD's I know look at squirrels differently.
And how somehow you stop saying yellow and insert buff whenever possible.
The pride that we have as AGDs.
All the AGDs I know are so unique, yet they all have a great sense of humor, they are laid back and honest people. I haven't met an AGD yet that doesn't love to laugh!

I am so proud to be an Alpha Gam because I see so many amazing women here on GC that keep the spirit and ideals of our group strong even after college! Hats off to us all!

haha another way I show I'm proud to be an AlphaGam....
I'm an alumna now in my 5th year so technically I don't have to help out with rush. BUT I'm taking advantage of the fact that I look like i'm 17 yrs old and actually going to all the parties to rush girls too!
(bad part about looking 17 is picking up 18 yr old boys....)

Even if I am particpating in the local 4th of July parade or on campus for an advisor meeting or out of the blue, having your collegians come up and give me a hug and say they love me! Also, walking in the parade and having sisters from other chapters around the US shout "I'm an Alpha Gam too!"
The way that Alpha Gams have bonded over the internet so much that several of us are (hopefully) planning extra day(s) at Convention to hang out, shop, etc. ...And to know that an AGD is usually here wiithin a short time to respond to your time of need..good or bad..or just to chat and say Hi!
When you hear about the accomplishments of another Alpha Gam whom you will NEVER meet, but you still get that warm fuzzy feeling like yea!! It happened to one of US!!

I am sending this letter to my chapter for certain reasons:
Dear Sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta,
I hope I find you all well!! Things have been busy in Louisville, but I am planning on attending initiation and will be at homecoming! I miss my sisters all the time and so I have decided to get a Junior Circle chapter started here. It¡¦s going to be a lot of work but I have already made some contacts and they are more than willing to help out. It is amazing what this bond of sisterhood does! Girls from all over emailed me saying they would love to help and meet their sisters! ƒº So that is some exciting new stuff up here!
It made me think about my days as a collegian. I miss living in the house- I remember complaining about house duties, but I would give anything to have to clean the bathroom or kitchen, so long as everyday I could walk into the brown house and see my sister¡¦s faces around the couch. Remember to appreciate one another and be there for one another. Dione and I laugh about how we didn¡¦t like each other until our first rush on the other side- we did some of the hardest and heaviest tasks, and we were both so little at the time, shortly after rush Dione asked me to be her big sister, and I lied and said I couldn¡¦t. I kept the story up all during big/lil week and on the night of her big sister candlelighting SHE CRIED! She may not admit to it now- but yes, Dione cried because she got the big sister she wanted. I remember the car accident my senior year that many of us were in. Afterwards I was on medicines and far away from home (and my mommy) and my sisters came over and took me to get my medicines, or to get food, brought me lunches, or just took me to the house. They took my homework to my professors and brought me assignments¡K I couldn¡¦t have made it through my last semester at WKU without the help I received from my sisters.
I remember Corinne having to be hospitalized because she had a car accident and her blood work wasn¡¦t right. There were sisters with her round the clock! I remember her being in a lot of pain and the nurse telling her she couldn¡¦t have anything, so I went outside and told her to call a doctor and get a prescription for a pain killer because my sister was not going to lay in bed crying because she hurt, not while I was there- Corinne got medicines soon after. She was there for a few days, but ask her, she was never alone, there was always an Alpha Gam by her side.
When Nicole Crump¡¦s mother passed away, many sisters came to be with her, even though school wasn¡¦t in session at the time, she must have had two dozen sisters to lean on during her grief.
I remember winning AOPi¡¦s Mud Volleyball- we got a team together at the last minute, but it was so much fun! Lauren Garey and I changed into some SHEETS I Had in the back of my car and drove all the way back to the house in them!! HAHA!!!
There were KD Shanangins practices, Greek Week banners, sisterhood retreats, initiations- oh man I love initiation¡K I still know most of it by heart. It gives me chills thinking about it.
I remember winning tug, both years! We were so ecstatic we cried, not just the tug team but everyone, we all bawled we were so happy and so proud. Every chapter but the ones we were pulling against rooted for us, even the fraternities! It was an awesome feeling, to have all the greek community behind you.
I know it is hard, but try to have some panhellenic spirit. Congratulate the chapters and sisters of those chapters that have successes. It does no one good to hate another chapter, and in the end only makes us look like we are jealous. Why do we need to be jealous? We are Alpha Gams!
And think about this- since 1904- almost 100 years, women all across the United States have gone through the same initiation you have, heard the same words and seen the same things you have¡K isn¡¦t that amazing? I was walking out of Kohl¡¦s parking lot last year some time, to my car and an older woman stopped me and asked if that was my car that said Alpha Gam on it- and I replied yes. This woman must have been 65, and she got the BIGGEST GRIN on her face and said that she had been an Alpha Gam at the Upsilon Chapter in Oklahoma¡K then she told me ¡§Isn¡¦t it funny, I am old enough to be your grandmother but instead I am your sister¡¨ and she presented me with our grip¡K that really touched me.
I know that I am an AGD aholic! I love my sorority, my sisters and all that we stand for. I love putting on my letters, even today, and going out, because I am so proud to be an Alpha Gam. I am proud of my chapter, and of our members. I love you all, even those members I don¡¦t know well, and those members that I have yet to meet. You are my sisters, you share in the same bond as I, and that means unconditional love.
I have had my fair share of anger and pain at sisters at times, but even now, years later, if any one of them asked me for help I would be there for them. It is a tough thing, and an unnatural thing to hate someone, or even bear a grudge against someone, especially your sister.
Try to hold fast to one another, remind each other why you love AGD and why you are here. When someone speaks ill of a sister or of the chapter, tell them to remember Epsilon Pi, that is all you should need to say. If you do something wrong, be woman enough to admit it and ask for forgiveness, that is a hard thing to do, because it means being a humble person. Humility is an honorable thing.
Most of all enjoy your time while in college and with one another. Remember all the late night runs to Wal Mart, and all the dinners and lunches at Zaxby¡¦s and Puertos. Laugh while walking up the hill to class together¡K and when you are walking into a chapter meeting, appreciate ritual and please treat it with respect and dignity. Look around at all of the faces and think about why you are glad that the person you are looking at is your sister. And why not tell them every once in awhile? Try to be helpful, because you will gain so much from your time as an Alpha Gam while at Western. More than you know and can appreciate until you have graduated and you are out in the ¡§real world¡¨¡K only now can I look back and say ¡§I guess I did it right, but I wish I had done this or that¡¨.
Be able to go alum and say ¡§I have no regrets¡¨. That is my wish for all of you.
Take care of one another!
Love and loyalty in Epsilon Pi,
Sarah Fahey

Sarah, I wish I had your way with words. That was very touching and made me think about my college years at GC. I know that it will accomplish what you're intentions are, to encourage, up lift, and praise.
Now, all of us goofing off at work... get back to work!

It has taken me a while to post in this thread. Not because I am not proud. But because it is so hard to put into words.

Just wanted to give y'all a pat on the back for being so great!

The thing is, when I hear people talk about the women of AGD, these comments are the norm, never the exception. I am so proud that our women uphold our purpose, and so proud to be connected to such great women. It makes me feel so honored to be included as one of the nice classy ladies of Alpha Gamma Delta! I honestly believe that the last line of our purpose is being upheld by todays AlphaGams as much as it was in 1904... This shall be my purpose that those who know me may esteem ALPHA GAMMA DELTA for her attainments, revere her for her purposes and love her for her womanhood.
And that ladies, is what makes me proud to be an Alpha Gam

very well said, kristin! i've also had a hard time putting into words how i feel. i've always had a problem with that. i will admit, i was probably not the best, most dedicated member of Alpha Gam at school. We ran into some problems when i was on EC that really hit me hard and had a negative effect on me and how i viewed the chapter. it really made me step back and re-evaluate what was happening. i came very close to dropping out. the next one or two semesters, i was not very involved, i still went to meetings, but i shied away from the chapter. towards the end of the first semster of my senior year and my last semester at miami, i started to get more invovled. i grew to love alpha gam as much as i had during my new member period, up until the incident. and part of me has always been sad that i missed out on some time with my sisters.
i remember going through rush and then accepting a bid to Alpha Gam, i wasn't too sure about anything. i had been cut from the sorority i was a legacy too. my sister attended the same school, was very involved with that chapter, held numerous positions including being president of the chapter. girls that didn't like her cut me on purpose. it was a very negative effect on my whole experience. i stuck with rush though and Alpha Gams preference round really sealed it for me. i remember the week after i accepted my bid, my dad called all excited. he found out a woman he knew from work is also an Alpha Gam so he called her up after not having spoken to her awhile. he said she was so excited and started going on and on about the sorority and sisterhood, etc, and he was so happy for me.
now, as i sit her today, chatting with all of you Alpha Gams from across the country, i'm so glad that i stuck with it. you have showed me what the true spirit of Alpha Gam really is. Especially over the past few days, I know that I can come here for a hug, when needed, and I hope that everyone knows that i'm always there for them, whenever.
last october, i moved to boston not knowing anyone. but i had never had a problem meeting people before and i didn't think that would be a problem this time, but boy was i wrong. i went months without knowing a sole, never going out at night, etc. there were a few people that i met through my school's alumni chapter, but not many. the closest Alpha Gam chapter is almost two hours away and the Alum chapter is out that way as well. Since I don't have a car, I couldn't get involved with them. i was hating my life, hating everything about boston, and then i found this website and it helped me out a little. Walking home from my t stop one night after work, i saw a girl wearing a jacket with our letters on it. i stopped her, just to say hi, to say i was an alpha gam as well. it could have been one of the best things i have done since i moved her. she was so friendly, immediately asked for my number so that way we could get together. her roomate at the time was one of her pledge sisters. Since that night, we have hung out many times. they have invited me to parties they have, girls night outs, etc. part of me is starting to feel like i have a place here.
so i just wanted to say how glad i'm an Alpha Gam and how glad i am that i can call each and every one of you my sister.
