Rumor for Celtics Fans
The Celtics have traded Antoine Walker and Tony Delk to the Mavericks for Raef LaFrentz, Jiri Welsch, Chris Mills, and Dallas' 2004 first-round draft pick, according to the Dallas Morning News and radio station WEEI-AM. -- Developing

Good trade for the mavs. The Dallas #1 pick won't be that high either. I wonder if it was about the money that Walker makes?

Wow.
Dirk
Nash
and Antoine?
Scary for Spurs fans. Looks like it's gonna be another I-35 WCF. Too bad the Mavs lost their best playoff performer from last year when they traded NVE.

Interesting. They could really give the Lakers a run for their money.

The Mavs better win games like 150-137. As far as the trade - the Celtics essentially traded for their first 'legit' big man in a decade (Raef's not good, but he'll be serviceable in the east), and the hope that Jiri becomes the real deal. Plus, the first-rounder will probably be packaged in an attempt to move up to a franchise-type player to go along with Paul "Stitch" Pierce, I'd assume.
Now, if the Cs just ditch Vin Baker's fat alkie ass, they'd be good to go - however they're now in cap prison forever. It's a weird deal - almost makes you think there's another deal in the works to finish it off.

PLEASE!!
Trading one overrated player for another is not gonna solve the mavs problems. They still can't play D and now they got Fortson and the praying mantis at Center. Believe me no one here in SA is worried about the mavs, we're more concerned about the Kings and the T-Pups. Spurs in 2003-2004.

Yeah...not sure where the deal makes sense for anyone, except that it gives Dallas ANOTHER scorer (but did they really need one?) Walker could play a point forward role, as he's a good ball-handler, but not sure where it really helps them much beyond that.
Baker has lost a TON of weight - he almost looks anorexic compared to what he looked like last season. It's a weird deal for them though - dealing a captain close to the season opener.

But who is going to play centre for the Mavericks, Deathstick Bradley? Undersized Danny Fortson? Are they expected to go up against this?

Walker's saying it was personal - that Ainge never really liked him, and that the move was about that. Ainge was never a fan of Walker's play, and didn't think that he played well enough to have a "grip on the team."
Walker took out a half-page ad in the Globe thanking the fans and coaches - kinda a classy move on his part.

half-page? that cheap bastard
david aldridge was saying that the c's couldn't afford him after this season anyway, and this was the 'best they thought they could do' to free up short-term cap space . . . i don't know that chris mills is ever the best you can do, but what do i know?
anyway, i think you're right about the 'point-forward' - nelson doesn't really give a damn about having "all 5 positions" on the floor, so I think they'll just throw 5 guys out there. if they run the flex, it'll be just like watching my high school team (except they'll drop like 4 times the points).
