FWIW, there are 5 sisters to whom I was especially close while in school. Every year, we send each other a Christmas ornament. Usually, it's the same one for everyone, but some years (like if someone got married or had a baby), that person would get a different one. One of the five lives near the Lenox factory, so we each get a Lenox ornament from her; another always gets snowflakes for us; and on & on. I've also started doing this with their kids - I'd rather spend $10-20 on a wonderful ornament that they'll have for the rest of their lives than on a toy that will be broken by the next day!
If you're into iwon.com, they have ornaments from places like Lenox or Mikasa for as little as $4.95 each around Christmas. I've done that for the last 2 years.
If you start the tradition now, it will save you a TON of money in the future - and just think of the wonderful memories you'll have!
