Let's get this forum hopping!

Hello lovely Pi Phi's!

I thought I would start another thread to get our forum lively again.

So, I ask all of you these things: What are your careers? Is this your dream job or are there other things you wish you had gone into? What are you life goals? Have you met any of them?

I realized the other day that besides jharb I don't know any of you very well. I'd like to change that!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
Erin

I teach Spanish. Actually, my 3 degrees are in ag but then when I got out, Spanish professors were needed more and I had the hours so...

No, this career isn't what I'd planned. However, it has fit in best with our having 13 kids. It wouldn't have worked out so well if my husband (also a teacher) and I hadn't been on the same schedule as the kids. Originally, I'd planned to work my way up the professional and academic ladder but this hasn't been bad at all. You make a lot of trade-offs in life.

Well, right now I'm professional student.

I'm a double major in history and philosophy with a concentration in women's studies. I want to go to grad school in public history and/or museum studies. Although, I may do a year or two of volunteer domestic service before that, preferably in a homeless shelter in the inner city. Eventually I'd like to work in a museum.

Right now still a student, but I am graduating this December.

I am currently looking for a job..

My major is Public and Urban Affairs.. in other words I want to be an urban planner where I work for a city or town in their planning division to work with the town on issues of zoning, comprehensive plans, etc. (i explained this bc I usually get wierd looks when I tell people what my major is bc they just dont know)

hhmm.. i really think that i will like this area.. its always interested me a lot since I am from a smaller area and have seen growth in many good and bad ways..

now if i went out and really pursued my dreams.. i would be dancing right now.. or cheering.. i ended up rushing instead of trying out for dance or cheerleading .. i had done it for so long before coming to college that i wanted something different now i looking back regretting i didnt keep it up.. hopefully i will get back into it though..

No, Pi Phi is not my job! It is my diversion from a very stressful job and my passion.

My real profession is nursing. To be specific, I am a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. It is my dream job, the best of both worlds. I get to be at the bedside (and get out those maternal instincts... there's always some baby that needs a hug) and yet I can stretch myself, continually challenge myself to learn more. Not only that, I don't have to deal with the mundane, regimented aspects of bedside staff nursing.

I knew from my sophomore year in HS that I wanted to be a nurse and by my senior year of my BSN program, I knew I did NOT want to work with adults! The best thing about nursing is that every specialty is so different that you can always find a niche. MIne is premature and sick newborns.

Ok I think it's my turn to reply to my own thread.

I'm currently a senior majoring in speech pathology. I'm a beginner clinician right now. I think this is a job where I'll be happy, but I'm unsure. I think it'll take me some time to get used to it. My dream job would be to be either a forensics scientist or a neonatal nurse. I just wanted to be in a job where I'd get to help people on a daily basis.

My main goal in life is to be a loving wife and mother. I hope that doesn't sound outdated, but I've wanted both for as long as I can remember. I would love if I could be a stay at home mom or maybe even open my own practice in my home. I just love kids too much to miss out on their lives!

I also hope to keep Pi Phi as one of my main priorities in my life. Someday I would love to serve as an officer of AAC or as CPP. I guess we'll just see one day. As long as I get to convention someday I'll be happy!!!

At the moment I am a professional student. I am majoring in marketing and currently want to work in advertising. If you've ever seen "What women want" well I want to do what Mel Gibson does. Ever since I saw that movie when it first came out I knew I wanted to do that.

Also after going to the National Panhellenic Conference earlier this month I decided after I get married and have my husband work, I want to be the next Jean Wirths Scott. Maybe by the time its my turn then I can be the next NPC chairman..... (ok thats me dreaming).

Oh!!! Can I be the next Sis Mullis if you're the next Jean Wirths Scott? I love Sis to death! I met her at last summer's Leadership Seminar, and I was impressed by her caring nature and spunkiness! I hope I always have that much energy.

I'm told that Kay Knittle Brock would be a good role model so I'll be the next her!

Speaking of Grand Council, does anyone know if Annette Mitchell Mills is still alive? She was CPP when I was an active and later went on to be on Grand Council. She was a committed officer and worked hard for us, even if she DID have the uncanny knack of walking in just as someone had said something, uh, off color!

I haven't read anything about her passing but she had to be at least in her sixties thirty years ago.

Hey ladies!

I'm back on the boards after a considerable hiatus - work was been pretty hectic and I also moved. It's been a labour of love getting this place put togther and has taken up most of my spare time (other than Pi Phi)

I work in healthcare public relations and really enjoy my job. I've been at my agency for 8 months and am starting to get into the swing of things. Originally, I wanted to be a doctor, but for various reasons that wasn't possible.

I love what I do but it took a long time after graduation to find the place I wanted to be. I definietly met my immediate goal from university which was figure out what I wanted to do with my life and get a job in that field. PR is where I want to be for now, but I'm open to transitions. And I still have a deep, hidden desire to be a physician.

My dream is to own a great house in Toronto and to be as successful as my father - to be able to provide for my family (although I have to say that I too would love to stay home and raise a family if my future husband could afford to take care of us all...but I kind of like having my own money)

I went to university not knowing what I wanted to do. After several changes and now a break from school, I have had a moment of clarity and have decided that I want to go into law. I'm still not sure if I actually want to be a lawyer, but law is definitly the field I want to get into...more specifically family law. I would like to represent fathers who are commited to caring for their children. The reason for this is I have had some friends who have obviously becomes fathers too early, but have tried to step up and take responsibilty, only the mothers won't let them. Our society has far too many dead beat dads, and it's unfair to let the good ones suffer.
Well now that I have returned from my tangent . Right now I am working, it's a good company, but the job is something I definitly don't want to do for the rest of my life. I'm just trying to get my head straight for my return to school, and when I do law is definitly the direction I want to head into.

To those who've picked Pi Phi role models, I would say you've made excellent choices. I have gotten to know all of those ladies through my service in Pi Phi and they are all wonderful friends who have given so much of their lives to making Pi Phi so strong.

Carnation-- yes, Mrs. Mills is still with alive. She was not at the Anaheim convention but hopefully will be in Tampa.

Serving NPC or the fraternity is a very good goal. The desire of members to serve and volunteer is what keeps the opportunities you've enjoyed available for the next generation of Pi Phis! Serving at the international level begins with involvement at the local level... so, please, all you GC-ers who are active in your chapters, serving as officers or Panhellenic officers, I congratulate you and encourage you to keep it up. When you graduate, look for opportunities to join with Pi Phi sisters. Serve your local alumnae organizations, assist on AAC or House Corp... keep coming to Convention!

Hope to see you all in Tampa!
