OK All you Hot/Cold Natured ZTAs . . .

I have this roommate who's constantly turning the air conditioner either to off or all the way to 75. Both ways make this apartment stuffy! You can barely breathe and I have a fan and the window open to keep my bedroom from getting stuffy but it still gets that way.

I am a pretty reasonable person! I usually like the air conditioner on 70 but I don't mind bumping it to 72 or 73. I am in the south so it's still pretty warm here. We're still in the mid to upper 70s.

I mean is it too hard to leave it on 72 or 73 to keep the apartment from getting stuffy so that you can actually BREATHE instead of suffocating? OK that's my vent for now.

People have different internal thermosats. My boyfriend will break a sweat when his apartment is at 70 degrees while I'll be walking around in a sweatshirt, pants, and socks. My roomie and I keep our temperature at 75; my sister came to visit this weekend and she claimed my apartment felt like a meat locker. Your roommate may honestly be freezing when you turn the temperature down to 72 while you're burning up. You guys need to sit down and compromise on a temperature that you both are comfortable at.

Another reason she could be turning the air up to 75 is to save money on electricity. It's a lot of money to keep an apartment at 70 degrees. It'll wind up costing you guys more if you keep switching it back and forth on each other. The air conditioning has to overcompensate every time you turn it back down to 70 from 75.

This apartment is school owned and we pay the room and board at the beginning of the semester. We don't have utilities so the cost isn't a problem. The rest of my roommates agree on my temperature. My thing is is that you can always put on more clothes but you can only take off so much!

Thumbs up

Amen!!!

Me and my other 3 roomates are in the same kind of situation. We (me and 2 of the roomates) like to keep the apartment at 71-74, but some mornings we would wake up sweating and go to turn the air down and it had been set at 80! We love our fourth roomate but we had to lay down the law. She is always freezing. Now instead of going straight to the thermostat she has learned to layer clothing. Just like you said, if she is cold she can put on more clothes. However, ther's only so much we can take off.
Personally, I can't sleep comfortably when its hot. I Definitly find it hard to fall asleep while sweating
So, you are not alone in the thermostat wars
