After more than twenty years under a Fraternity/ Sorority Council type of intergreek governance, the Dean Of Students at my school is allowing a probationary period of two years of a more tradtional IFC/NPC/NPHC type. I am asking for any help or advice form those of you who have served on an IFC tpye of body before and if you could give me some ideas as to what to avod and what you wished was done differently. Feel free to PM me.

Note: Edited for my attrocious spelling

Hi Nicolle!

Along with the new IFC, NPC will be a seperate, recognized organization along with NPHC. The only question the adviser has is what to do with the locals? I have a feeling they will keep FSC and use that as an umbrella for all the orgs. that don't fit under NPC, IFC, or NPHC. We have to make a presentation and that will get the ball rolling! It's about time!

I am absolutely stunned.

Getting Panhellenic recognized by the administration was the main goal of my presidency back in (I'm dating myself here) 1996. It was an exercise in futility. I honestly never thought that I would live to see the day that IFC, NPC or NPHC would be recognized at SF State.

*This is what it must be like to live in a parallel universe.*

Congratulations, and if there is ANYTHING I can do to assist please don't hesitate to PM me! I'm delighted about this turn of events.

GCers, if you *do* have any advice for the SF State Greeks, please pitch in and help them. This is a HUGE opportunity for us and we want your advice!

There is definitely some EXCTING changes going on at SFSU... BUT they are being SUPER slow to come... from what I understand right now we have to make presentations to the Vice pres. of student life and explain how our councils will work and operate... (not a problem for NPC or NPHC since we have by laws, the green book, and umm... about 20 years of meeting "unofficially" under our belts, and I know NPHC meets unoffically as well) BUT after those presentations are made to her, presentations must be made to FSC, then, depending on how the structure is decided there will be a probationary period of operating with the new system and seperate councils, THEN if that goes well it will be official.
FSC at SFSU is NOT going to be disbanded ,as far as I can tell the problem is how to fit in the councils under FSC, like are they going to have 1 vote, or voice and no vote, and individual chapters under the council still get their 1 vote or what ? My feeling is that the national councils will NOT be allowed to be completely seperate from FSC. I think FSC COULD be effective with full participation from the organizations on campus, but it never really worked that way... so over the years it has become an organization that does't really do much for its members and the seperate orgs have forgotten that FSC is the only reason we're on campus to begin with, so they should take it more seriously. NE WAY....It is an amazing thing that this is taking place and we are all very excited ! Maria I was going to PM you about it, but didn't get a chance before this post happened, we still need to talk more though because I'd like to pick your brain about some stuff..

Cara, definitely PM me. When I was working with the administration to get Panhellenic recognized, our proposal was to make the College Panhellenic Council a recognized committee of FSC. That way we would be able to reserve rooms for meetings and formal recruitment as the "FSC-Panhellenic Committee."

Each sorority would continue to retain its own vote at FSC, but we were shot down well before we ever got around to discussing whether the committees would have a vote or only a voice. Obviously, my preference would be to have each committee--IFC, NPHC and NPC--have a vote.

The way things are now, the locals outnumber the nationals and they don't follow any risk management policies. So they vote to do activities that our headquarters won't allow us to participate in. It automatically creates a division in FSC. Maybe if each of the committees got a vote, it would even things out a little bit. At the very least, it would require the locals to *listen* to our side of things and understand why we can or can't do certain things.

I can't wait to hear updates about how this proposal progresses.
